Is this going to turn out to be a thing?

As usual, it's hard to know what to make of it. We do know that it comes from Africa and so far has mainly affected gay men. This alone raises a red flag that tells us we might not get to the heart of it, for fear of commentators being thought of as racist or homophobic.

Then we're told it's mostly harmless, but the WHO is apparently swinging into action. The WHO was utterly fucking useless when Covid broke out, so maybe they're doing some backpedalling now.

Let's hope it doesn't go anywhere, and for those unfortunate souls who have it, it'll go away soon enough.

Wouldn't it be better to have admin  merge the two threads. It seems a bit pointless having two threads covering the same topic

The fact you have posted on it with a pointless comment is the only reason it's back to the top of the board, everyone else has ignored it after the link to the already running thread was posted.

The reason it's still here is purely because it's in off topic and it directs people to the thread in a different section of the forum, less chance of another one being started here.

I didn't think it was a "pointless comment". Unless you merge or remove one of them then surely they will both be still visible to read and comment on  No point in getting into an argument,  just my view that's all. Bummer who opened up the 2nd thread obviously didn't see the first one for whatever reason. If I'm out of line I will consider having my wrist slapped for it.

I was using covid as an example .
I know it's about monkey pox..
I meant that as we have just come off covid pandemic and any other disease pops up harmless or not we are going to jump in fear immediately..

It comes after more than 30 scientists wrote last week about the "urgent need for a non-discriminatory and non-stigmatising" name for the virus and the disease it causes.
