Very soon if you use self scans to buy alcohol, its possible the machine will approve the alcohol, by using face recognition software. No doubt there will be opposition from members of the public, who dont like being watched, on cctv
Currently most of the supermarkets, are conduction trials, which are marked to end by the end of May
Possible role out of this software could happen in the early summer
So the software will take a photo of your face, and determine your age, but if the software thinks you look under 25, and checkout operator will then ask you for id. You also have the option to opt out of this, and then the machine wont take any photos of you
There are also plans to introduce digital id, which can be used in shops, that have the relevant equipment
Any photos of your face which get taken, will be deleted at the end of the transaction
