Author Topic: Best VPN  (Read 1200 times)

Hi folks, I'm considering a VPN for use with my laptop. It would be good for my work and also for this hobby.

I've previously used NordVPN when I had a kodi tv box and I liked it and found it worked well for the majority of the time. Haven't used the kodi box for a few years and so let the VPN expire. My only gripe with it, and this is nothing specific to NordVPN but to VPN's in general, is that it slowed the connection speed down.

Can anyone recommend a good VPN that meets the following criteria:

- easy to set up and use
- cost effective
- doesn't slow things down too much

Any other info would also be welcome.

Thanks all.

I’ve used Nord. It’s not bad. Cyberghost let’s you see how busy the available connections are which allows you to choose and helps optimise speed (most claim to do it automatically). Nice interface. I found it had a few bugs though. Most do.

The main rules I think are:
Get a paid account. No one will give high speeds on a free account.
There are other considerations if absolute security and privacy are very high on the list though most people won’t care that much. Many keep logs. Some have little or no privacy if an agency wants to see them. See Snowden’s analysis for that stuff.

I think Cyberghost is among the easier ones to set up that I’ve tried. It’s not the highest rated at the moment though. (You can Google the list).

I use ExpressVPN.

Not the cheapest around, but it's really easy to set up and very reliable too. Connection speeds are only slightly below what I get with it turned off.

Works well for me.

NordVPN does the trick for me. Regularly have 'sales' on too. To begin with, a few years ago now, i would experience slow down but not anymore.

I use Surfshark. Cheap and easy to set up, no issue with reduced speeds.

CyberGhost works perfectly well for me and I got a big discount on the price for 18 months subscription. I seem to remember signing up for a free trial to try it at first.
This site doesn’t load if you use a vpn though.

VPN is a mixed bag. I have to remember to switch email off otherwise I get messages about suspending unless I confirm identity. Not to mention UKP, Google and a host of places that like to confirm who.

SurfShark or ExpressVPN. I've found ExpressVPN works faster in Far East
