It was very widespread in Soho and may still be so for all I know, clip joints they were known as, I had to fight my way out of one in the 80s with a mate, we went in and a looker took our coats, then we were asked to pay £80 for half a bottle of cheap Champagne when we refused a big ugly fucker started to threaten us. We got our coats and legged it.
