Interesting but isn't this study fundamentally flawed? It hasn't been possible to make an escort booking or leave feedback since March 2020. It does look like its possible to use the field reports feature but this is at vastly reduced volumes compared to previously.

The author's premise is that the volume of encounters hasn't changed but I don't see how this conclusion has been reached nor do I think its correct. Prices have also gone the other way as far as I can tell.

I would have expected online bookings (phone, cam etc.) to be up massively, which might tell its own story but this appears to have been missed.

The report that the story is based on has some odd empirics:

Interesting that they indicate popularity based on number of views.
I can't find how they determine the "reviews", perhaps they're using views.
If so, that would strike me as a poor measure of measuring meeting numbers.
From personal experience, I've been on AW much more than usual in the last couple of weeks because there's so few opportunities about to "scratch my itch.  Once I've done said deed, I'll be on there much less.

Then they categorise services into A, B, C, D, E. "C" contains mostly BDSM-related services.
I may be getting old, but this BDSM-C category includes "Dinner Dates", "Disabled Clients", Foot Worship", "Lapdancing", Modelling", "Pole Dancing", "Tie & Tease", "Toys", "Travel Companion".
A trip to Spearmint Rhino involving Lapdancing, Pole Dancing & Dinner is now BDSM according to these experts!

He spends two paras testifying to the credibility of his own research but has to admit that his substantial sample may not be representative of the industry he's investigating.   :dash:

The EPSRC better be demanding their money back (if they supported this I should try tapping then for my late-in-life post-grad).

35 quid to see the goods!  He better have a decent set of chebs under his shirt and some good hand game.   :dash:

Germans!  Where the fuck did he find a statistically mentionable proportion of Germans out of 11,500 profiles in the UK?
(Eh? 12,300+ records in the dataset of which 5945 had no declared nationality and 4232 were British, sort the data by nationality in descending count order and the next largest non-EE contingent is Brazilian @ 167 and Thai @ 138,  Chinese @ 63, Germans are 25 which is less than Italians, Irish, Portuguese and French so what's with all this bias?  And sub-totaling geopolitical blocs, what's wrong with nations?)

He hasn't acknowledge B&S and fake profiles.

An awful lot of supposition in this "analysis".  Didn't trend on multiple years, didn't establish the soundness of counting reviews, clearly didn't really understand how the mechanics of AW have been subsumed and abused.  Services advertised are significantly not what's necessarily rendered, wanted or partaken.  Buyer bias for  SP looks, race, nationality all significant.  Very little hint of actual insight more just tropes and stereotyping.  Punter motivations at different price points and across different demographics of age, race, social standing, employment, relationship status, etc would all be impactful on an "analysis", he has done not a lot more than infer a bunch of conclusions from counting the beans from the outside of the jar.

This is superficial at best, but I do agree with its conclusion that sex workers should be closer to the top of the vaccine queue than the majority of them are..

What it doesn’t go into is the proportion of foreign WGs that aren’t registered with the NHS and will probably not be invited to get the jab

Ah. What's the old saying? Lies, dammed lies and statistics

An excellent analysis of his analysis!

And here's something else.

He writes: "These workers [eastern European sex workers] were often the ones who provided riskier services, such as unprotected sex or extreme BDSM (bondage, dominance and submission/sadomasochism)."

WTF?

It's difficult to find an Eastern European who delivers the most simple and "vanilla" of services with a reasonable level of commitment.  So just try asking your friendly neighbourhood Romanian hooker how she feels about some "extreme BDSM"!

Forgot to pick up on that, just looking at their numbers again:
207 unprotected sex, 144 undeclared nationality, 51 British, 5 Romanian, 7 others
371 Barebackers, 263 undeclared, 72 British, 22 Romanian, 14 others

Of the undeclared Nationalities, cross-tabbing vs Ethnicity:
Arabic   Asian   Black   Caucasian (White)   Chinese   Indian   Latin   Mixed   Other   (blank)   Grand Total
4           174           214           3125                           9            27           4   176           12           2200            5945

And there were no other categorisations for determining geographic origins in the dataset.  So unless they used another data source or created one by contacting all profile owners and established nationality personally he seems to be expressing a very shaky opinion about EE girls without delineating further as our own collective "monitoring" and experience over years has taught us.

The data seems very raw lacking even some simple cleansing for a handful of odd records with "invalid" entries for nationality that might even suggest corruption of the data.

I then picked out the following declared services as (possibly) most risky for the SP :
Note the glaring observation he failed to mention in his bias about EEs  Perhaps he was expressing as a proportion of each pop'n of nationality?  Don't think so...

Wonder how much I could've got from the ESRC for this insight?
