You're reading Vogue in lockdown?  Oh dear.

So the author, if a genuine SP, is a white, privileged, educated woman working out of a flat in Soho, who caters to monied clients for multi-hour encounters and is savvy enough to have savings such that she can donate her story fee (wonder how much that was) to SWARM...

..And she's writing to highlight the significantly curtailed sex-trade amidst the CoVID crisis and difficulties of sex-workers unlike her, who can't afford to stop working.  This is such an odd story for Vogue and "normal" women's interests.  The language used could've been penned by their own writing staff from their equally privileged and elite PoV.  I don't get what tone or standpoint she's trying to make her readers sympathetic to.

Seem like Vogue ran out of stories and had to make up one.

I do know two girls who write well,  and two who are prosperous enough to survive through lockdown. But that is a rather pompous piece of writing which actually reduces the impact of a real problem. I wonder that anyone on Vogue's staff would understand a girl's situation that well.

Personally, I struggle to believe that a self-described "white middle-class[ed]" person who "operates with considerable social privilege" ever worked 11-hour shifts in a parlour, as claimed in the fourth paragraph. A further observation which undermines the credibility of this is where, in the second paragraph, she complains about the casual racism of a client asking if it was safe to visit in light of the escalating pandemic. Perhaps if she was an Asian sex worker this comment would be more legitimate, however as a self-described privileged white middle class woman I really doubt she'd construe this comment as being racist. The most one could read into it in this specific context is caution on the part of the punter. I therefore have to call BS.

Is it possible that they've interviewed a number of SP's, found similarities in their accounts then ironed them out into one narrative to make it more compelling reading?

Vogue, like most of the media industry these days is likely to be staffed by privately educated, Oxbridge graduates who wouldn't have a clue about the real world even if it was shoved up their arse.

I've no doubt this article was written by a genuine WG. I could think of several who might have written it.

I don't think it illuminates much, if Vogue really cared about the plight of WGs struggling they might have gone out to find some in actual dire straights rather than commission something that feels like a puff piece. It's a tough crowd here but I don't see how that article is likely to provoke much empathy in the target audience either.

There is also the galling suggestion in the penultimate paragraph that when things continue to be slow as we navigate out of the lockdown it will be be in part down to whorephobia. I'm not contesting the history in this regard but the simple fact is either or both the punter and WG can be completely asymptomatic and there is absolutely no guarantee that an entirely non-essential and optional encounter with a provider won't result in a positive transmission regardless of how careful either party think they are being. This is especially the case in London where public transport for one party is particularly likely to be involved.

Many punters skew older and will need to give this some thought. Its not fucking whorephobic to do so and it's appalling to suggest otherwise. There was at least one active WG taking this line on Twitter in March which has not aged well.

All of these female friendly publications that are highlighting the plight of poor sex workers during Covid, were also the first to hammer the users of such services during normal times.

Cheers buddy, a most interesting read. And a very accurate summary of the situation, IMO. I've added Audrey to hotlist for when she returns to London.   :drinks:

As mentioned before, I'm a chap who punts mostly at brothels, and I've met over a dozen lasses in such establishments who were English, white  and middle class or above.  Admittedly most were back in the 90s when English WGs were much easier to find.  But there have been a few recently, e.g. if you check my 1st review it mentions meeting Eva in the "Exclusive girlfriends" parlour back in 2018,  who I described as having a "Proper upper class posh voice". Steve Jones commented on the review to mention Summer who  worked there in 2019 & is also posh.   Admittedly the shifts at the EG parlour were only 10 hours long, but hey.

I stand corrected.

My pleasure buddy.  One more thing then.  In my experience, while posh young English birds at value prices pop up more often than some might think,  they never stay available for more than a couple of months tops.   If you snooze you lose!

(I understand it's different on the sugar daddy platforms, but typically you have to invest a lot of time into those before they become a good way to get cheap sex)

Not saying post birds give consistently better sex than with the more regular sort of WG, but it is a different experience.

That would imply they're students who want a stimulus package, no?

I have to say that I'm very grateful to you for pointing this out. The whole SA shebang certainly has its attractions, primarily the fact that you seem able to meet posh, young, English birds. The thing that has put me off so far is the fact that many seem unwilling to leap into bed with you - I assume that some amount of time has to be invested in building a relationship first. As I'm married, doing this without raising suspicions would be challenging...
