I hate these sweeping generalisations from know-alls.

I am friends with a now-retired lady, and met her husband twice when staying with her.

He was not at all a pimp or ponce but worked in the building industry. She made a LOT of money, but never supported him. She was also, much though I like her, bloody hard work to live with.

They have both now stopped work but he did his share.
