How do I cancel my account? I know others have asked this and been ripped apart, but it’s a fair enough question to a membership website. Nothing against the service this site offers, but life styles move on and I’d rather not have the possibility of being able to log on.

If you don't want to be able to log on again then people normally say to change your password for something you won't remember then it stops you having the option

You could try to get your self banned, then there no returning, or just dont bother logging back in.  So if your reply to further comments, why are your replying if your wanting to leave UKP

Somebody should spend time coding that feature in?  I don't think I've ever received an email from UKP so not like the site is going to accidentally out me one day is it.

What would happen to the posts they've made historically? They are still valid, as are the reviews.
Just walk away, no drama.

Are you expecting your posts and reviews to be removed?
That would be like changing “events” in time. Other posts relating to your posts would need to be deleted, and so on and so on. You can’t turn back time.

As advised use a site like Lastpass, generate a very complex password - change it and moved on.

Yes, I thought the "Not good enough" bit was particularly petulant. 
It reminded me of a former boss who thought a good old foot stamp and raised voice would assert his authority. 
Whereas it just showed him to be the incompetent dickhead he was.

What's not good enough is complaining when the OP agreed to agreed to the rules, particularly:

Being a member here for a few years i understand why that is but some newer guys may not understand why its not possible. perhaps a further sentence on the rules saying specifically once joined, accounts cannot not be deleted?

Log out and leave the forum for two years - Then pop back & see if anyone asked where you had disappeared to. If no one asked, you weren't missed and you can log out for ever:-)

Everything you have ever typed or searched for on the net leaves a digital footprint that is there forever.  Can understand anxiety or even a bit of shame may develop over the years participating on a site like this but you take the chance, just like you take the chance phoning an SP.

Honestly, unless you are a sicko or some sort of public figure then there's nothing to worry about.  Just log out and clear your cookies.

You also need to scramble your registered email, in addition to your password, as should the password reset function ever be fixed, you could gain entry again.

Also you can only scramble your password if you know your password and it's obvious many do not, but rely on staying logged in.

Getting banned is not finite as Admin can revert that setting.

I don't ask shops I don't wish to go into to bar/ stop me from entering them. I just don't go.
Admin /mods  have enough to do with the forum, and don't need to be removing accounts upon request, and then reactivating when they "made a mistake".
Just don't log on if you don't want to, and log on if you do. Is it that hard?

A lot of things seem very hard for a lot of people unfortunately, not sure how half the population manage to get out of bed; wash; dress etc

I suspect when people come on asking for account deletion what they actually want is all their posts removing etc to minimise any traces they may have left.
What would probably make it easier for the Mods would be to simply ban anyone instantly that asked, at least that way it would stop all the follow up shit they have to deal with and people continually having to post the rules etc

Why perpetuate the thread by posting pointless comments. Accounts are not deleted on request.

That's the point, Lamboman, he is a member, he no longer wishes to to, so it's down to him to just stop accessing / posting etc.
If his will is strong he can just avoid.
If he's not strong willed then change password to something random and unknown.
It's really not hard.
I'm sure he has his reasons which would make it clearer, and as previously suggested he probably wishes all his posts and reviews are removed. But as per the rules, posts are rarely deleted, and then, I beleive, only when to much personal info is given etc, no other reasons than that.
Move on, nothing here to see.
