The WeChat Phenomenon

Hey Folks

Back on the travels across ASEAN and seeing, experiencing and dining on the best the region has to offer.
Aside from that, meeting local girls (non-working) through the wonderful App named WeChat. As I have wrote and applauded the App before on this forum, I feel it necessary to add I have no vested interest in the App, other than using it to its maximum potential.
Woken up this morning to a hatful of messsages from local girls looking to meet up with a foreign guy, even normally shy local Muslim girls have messaged, knowing they’re doing it out of sight from their community and family.
In Malaysia, meeting Chinese - Malay girls is more usual than meeting Muslim - Malay, but there are many cute Muslim girls too.
In the more tourist areas and big cities the App is generally used by bar girls, hookers etc. But in areas away from the tourist masses, locals are easily found and even easier to meet. The past year or so I have used this App has led me into meeting some lovely and sweet girls, just looking for not always full on fun, but company of a decent enough foreign guy. Believe it or not, like guys showing off the girls they’ve met on holiday. Some of the girls equally like ‘showing off’ what they have found with their girl friends.

I have Wechat on my  phone but presumably I have to wait until I actually get out to BKK before I can start to find and message with locals? I see the "find people around me" function - is that what you use or is it more like Whatsapp and SA where you fund them somewhere else then get them chatting on WeChat?

Yes, you have to wait until you’re out here and use the search icon. Out of interest, I have tried the search local area where I live and the only results are foreign Asian students at the nearby uni. It doesn’t seam to be used at all back home, however, it’s extremely popular out here.
For a free App, you can find endless opportunities with locals, even as I’m texting this reply my phone is pinging text messages from locals.

FWIW, the Chinese girls in Manchester seem to rely on it - seems to be the only way they communicate, both for business and pleasure. Certainly seems to be their preferred booking method

In London, there are loads of Asian WGs using wechat - though about 80% of the photos are bait and switch.
