Author Topic: Prostitution law in NI confusion  (Read 1334 times)

I remember seeing a video a while back on prostitution in the US. The escort they interviewed said that if you pay a certain amount for a sex act then it's illegal. If you pay for a woman's time and you both consent to sex, it's not illegal because you're paying for their time and anything that happens is between them. I don't think the police or legal system would see it that way. Does anyone in NI know if this is true for NI? I've noticed on adultwork pages from NI the profiles state something like 'you pay for my time and anything else is between two consenting adults '.

I remember reading not that long ago about a few men who were lifted in Belfast. Caught up in a brothel sting.  PPS didn't follow through with charges as it wasn't worth their time. They are trying to catch sex traffickers. The only reason they lifted the men on site at the time of the raid was because they had to be seen to be doing so.  Local John's are the last thing they are worried about. Just stay clear of brothels/foreign escorts to be safe.

Interesting. It seems that in the US they sting hotels a lot.

I seen an interview a while back with one of the chief cops here about the lack of convictions. He had said that they don’t have the manpower to target everyone so have to prioritise the gangs. If memory serves me right he pretty much said they won’t go near the girls who they know are working of their own free will in the safety of their own home.

I’ve not punted in Belfast in a good few years now and even then I tended to look for girls on tour but that’s not as good as it was. Would still do if something really good jumped out at me. Tend to save my cash anytime I’m in England or Scotland with work.

I'm English so I don't have this problem. I was just curious how things work in NI in case the law changes here too. I reposted this as a topic to get more answers. One poster wrote this below, but of course there's no guarantees.

I guess one way of making sure they're genuine is to only search on adultwork and make sure they have reviews on here.Of course nothing is guaranteed 100% and it's up to you of course. Good luck!

The law is clear in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland I believe. Pay or arranged to have sexual services and the punter will be charged.
