If I book a 30 minute appointment how should the timing work?

Come on 30 minutes then quickly dress and leave or be out of the door at that point?

Would an hour appointment be any different.

Assume that no post punt shower is required.

I agree but some guys do take the piss and overstay ten to fifteen mins over time with either small talk or taking long in the shower. Which I think is a shitty thing to do.

How long is a piece of string?

Some I've encountered start the hour when you walk through the door, whereas most seem to start when you exchange paperwork so long as you don't take the piss. At the other end, some are happy to chat for 5-15 minutes after, whereas most want you to be getting dressed and heading to the door by the time the hour is up.

My advice would be to turn up, spend 5 minutes at most sorting out admin, be polite and leave on time.

Not to sure wot the topic means but I did find taking a phone in and playing some music about 30min long the same as the the punt helped me abit, this was even better then using a punting watch because all wot you have too do is listen too the songs so you know where you are in the punt.
