I'm not very technically good on this stuff and may be teaching Grandma to suck eggs but I just want to share something I found out this week.

Even if you have your number on Facebook as not visible, if it's on your profile it will still show up on a search. So be careful if you use your main phone for punting.

Yeah it has been discussed elsewhere. You can upload your contacts to Facebook and it will match with anyone in your phone. I've set up a fake Facebook account for this as it is handy to see better/more pics of WG's before booking them if they have it linked to theirs so it works both ways

I use Facebook, but my details and user name is BS. Even that I rarely log in. Best thing is not to use Facebook or any social media.

if i type my own phone number into the search bar and my profile doesnt show up, does that mean it doesnt show up for others

If you go to Your settings, under privacy settings there are a few options, including one to control who can look you up using your phone number.  If you set that to "friends" then only people who are already on your friends list can use your number to find you.  There's one for looking you up by e-mail too.

It worth going though all the sections in your settings periodically to review your privacy, just in case things have changed or been added with updates.

Mine was set to private, but was showing up. Was that because it was me doing the search ?

If you are not using a punting phone & have facebook it's best to remove your number in settings so if any prossies set their accounts to auto upload contacts you won't show up.

Just another reason to play safe and have a punting phone. Facebook seems to be getting more intrusive all the time!
