The dark side of punting.

A couple of days ago I was trying desperately to find any information I could about why the excellent Shrewsbury restaurant New York pork had suddenly closed its doors on what sadly seems a permanent basis.

My search lead me to this article which delved into the grim history of the building new pork pork is sadly attached to I have been punting in the Shrewsbury and Shropshire area for the best part of 15 years now but I had never heard about this building. This must truly be the grim under belly of punting and a option for the most desperate punter back when it was open for business.

As for the restaurant they did an excellent job of separating themselves from the rest of the building and meeting all the H+S standards required and hope the issues they have can soon be resolved.

Used to visit the place quite often a few years back, not very discreet being on the main road, but usually okay girls, and I'm certainly not desperate !!!

No I've not been there. But the place looks exactly like the sort of junkie shit hole that the media use to give punting a bad name.

I hope when it was running it looked better then it does now.

A bit more background info. In between the NYP/former Indian and the kebab shop (still open) there are two doors. One was two a bedsit full of junkies and one was to the brothel.

The brothel itself was not amazingly decorated but certainly not as bad as those photos portray. It is possible the author went into the wrong apartment.

The police don't care for brothels as long as the girls are underage or immigrants hence why this place, the one on whitchurch road (now closed) and one in Belle Vue (still open) used to run.

Not a fan of brothels myself  so stick to indys.

I used to like the mad Brummie on Whitchurch road. Also the girl who ran abbey forgate then had a place in an industrial unit off Whitchurch road. She was insatiable!

Didn't mind the industrial unit. shame it didn't last long. Always hated coming out of Abbey Foregate or Belle Vue. Same now really with Sally's place in Town

Not sure what the deal is but the whole building is up for let/sale and NYP has been closed since early August. It's a shame as it was a great pulled pork sandwich. Hopefully it will be up and running again soon.

Not quite sure why NYP has closed tbh, it's all a bit strange.
The curry place (was it Fawlty towers or something then 7 spice??) closed quite a while ago and its been empty.
The brothel went ages ago and I thought the crack den had been boarded up over a year ago too.

Agree about Belle Vue, it's very public. Imo the little scouse Heidi is the only one worth seeing, she does Wednesdays.

As for Sally's, I told my Mrs that I'd been there "for a massage" which is true so no problem if I get seen. We've both been customers of Sabai Thai since it opened. I just told her I thought I'd try out that new place in town. I thought it was best not to mention the topless HJ!!
