Felt it sensible to post this given the recent advancements in realistic image generation using AI. The most jarring example for me was seeing images generated by Google nano banana AI that have passed my personal threshold for spotting AI telltale signs (eg over use of depth of field to blur backgrounds, AI artifacts in background not resulting from camera blur (eg shapes inconsistent with what you’d expect), etc).
This, to me, feels like a natural progression of photo enhancement we’ve seen on SP profiles through the years. Case in point being photos being heavily edited with the likes of photoshop/“airbrushing” to the advent of filters on selfies to some GenAI attempts I’ve seen of SP profiles using their facial likeness overlaid on someone else’s body (as proven through some reverse image search revealing a different woman on a bikini marketplace).
My sense is the ease with which these fakes can be generated now will only mean we’ll get more frequent experiences of SPs not matching their photos. One positive (for the moment anyway) is that 18+ image generation (eg nudes) is still not available on the big AI providers but is still not impossible for a determined sergei to obtain for SPs with the right research. So that may be one way to discern the real SP profiles from those with AI fakes
