Who remembers a time when booking a WG involved calling a 20 word advert in the Personals section of the local paper. No mobile phones, so it was a case of finding a working pay phone and hoping no-one came and stood next to the booth waiting to use it next. Getting the address and wondering what hell was going to open the door. Was she going to be young, old, fat, thin, gorgeous or quite frankly a knuckle dragging munter.

Who else remembers these days?

Offline runner in the woods

Yes indeed. My first was a ad for Kinky Katie, personals in the express and star. Used phone box 10p if I recall . Luckily she was very kind, older girl, I was mid 20s.
A lot easier now tho.

Some of my best ever punts! Certainly some of the most exciting, and part of that was having no idea who I'd see or what exactly might happen.

Before the cards in phone boxes there were the postcard adverts in newsagents, such as Sugar Kane Gives Banjo Lessons; Large Chest For Sale; French Lessons Given, the last one got me my first blow job in a house off Bond Street.

I found one offering French lessons and I was so excited and I got French lessons 😰

Prob being nostalgic but was more exciting back in the day

We all probably had our favourite public phone box.
You had to have your pen and paper ready to write down the address etc.
I even remember phoning from one phone box and being given directions to another phone box near the premises to get the final instructions, only to find my pen wouldn't work when I got there.

Some things don't change I guess.
What we call bait and switch these days is just the same as the descriptions the madams used to give on the phone.  :D
We've all got horror stories to tell.

Used to be a section in TradeIt (a Bristol free ads paper),  remember trying to find locations with only phone boxes and pretty elaborate instructions/directions.

No sort of DFK or GFE was available back then, things have definately improved.  Going rate used to be £60 for an hour.

Imagine a world where there are no reviews of SP!

My local newspaper in Birmingham used to have around 30 small ads six days a week, then there was the Daily/Sunday Sport, Bargain Pages etc. the local entertainment listings weekly free magazine What’s On was also packed full of SP ads.

I don’t recall seeing cards in phone boxes in Birmingham but they were probably there if you knew where to look. The other thing that strikes me as I look back through my rose-tinted punting glasses is that all of the ads were from British SP, how times change.

They were the halcyon days of punting IMO .

IIRC the back section of the Exchange & Mart had listings
& sections in the likes of Fiesta & Readers Wives

Back then more british run R&T parlours
Drive or walk past the place & scribble down the number on signage

Find a phone box with coins to hand & nervously give them a call
Asking basic details

Happy days

The old Reading Evening Post had lots of "personal Ads back in the day . In fact one of the best SPs i have ever meet was from the Post.

In the 90s, I expanded my scope from just Soho walk-ups to local brothels and SPs.

I used to look forward to the Ealing/Acton Gazette coming out every Friday, and then go to a local cafe, get a table at the back, order some breakfast and turn to the back page adverts!

Over the years there were at least two occasions where the paper ran stories about local brothels being raided. These articles had that tabloid slightly moral and outraged tone to them. While the same brothels had long running adverts on the classifieds page!

I never thought those days would come to an end.

In the mid 90’s there was a nearby town to me about 10 miles away from where l lived used to have a number
of parlours. They advertised in the local paper. So l used to drive there park up, get a paper to get the phone
numbers and then find a payphone and give them a ring. Didn’t have a mobile phone in those days.
You phone up and normally be told there where between 2 and 4 women to see and a mixture of blondes and brown
hair girls. They where always in there 20’s. When you get there they most of the time where older. Given the address
and house number to find. Luckily l know the area well as there was no google maps.
Most of the time when you arrived you would be shown into a room by a receptionist and the girls would come in
one by one and you take your pick. They where good times and normally get a fuck for £40.

What’s the old saying.
Never look back on nostalgia 🤷🏼

I was in a phone box just off Baker Street yonks back. The door opens and some bloke starts ripping the cards off the windows replacing them with others. Another guy appears and they pushing and shoving each other with me trying to deal with my call. Laugh…… I could have bought a round.😂

But those cards could be tricky. I called up one lass, a right corker. Spoke to the maid who assured me her girl was strikingly similar to the one on the card.

Of course she was a fat fucker in her sixties I’d guess. Who took umbrage at me saying no and starting to walk. She yelled abuse and made a grab for my face knocking my glasses off. They were sunglasses and I had turned to walk away putting them on.
To be perfectly honest I was so fucking annoyed. I grabbed her fat fucking arm and shoved her towards her maid. Telling her to stay put or she would end up with a broken nose. Possibly one of the only times I could have punched a lass in the face.

Happy days  :D

The line ups were great back in the day

Last had the same bout a decade ago in a Barcelona pukka knocking shop
IIRC 6 or 7 SPs who would come in one by one
Was with a mate & as i had found the place i had 1st dibs
A knockout 9-10 was first into the lounge & straight away i said her giving the burd a big smile
Mamasan said that i needed to see all the SPs & i replied whatever but i'm not changing my mind & pointed towards the burd  saying 100%
The SP's basic english & me pointing etc she knew the score
As she slinked out of the room she winked chuffed as
5 mins later having seen the rest of the rota it was chocks away  :yahoo:

No google maps indeed
I had an A-Z covering London & another Surrey i put them on expenses for work :)
I knew roughly where to go only needing the A-Z for the last mile / half mile or so

I had quite a few good punts from the adds in the local paper back in the day, also some bad ones too!

Can remember driving to a phone box and booking an appointment, either I had good memory back then or I’ve forgot I used to write the address down!

There’s one girl from the paper that’s still on AW now I think, keep thinking maybe I should book her for old times sake.

Also remember buying the contact mags but always disappointed there never seemed any in my area.

I was going to ask, did anyone have much luck with those phonebox calling cards. I noticed them often back in the day, but I feel they went extinct around the same time that I started punting around 2020? (Along with phone boxes themselves, now I come to think of it).

I used to love the phone box cards. It was such a buzz making a few calls and going to a flat never quite sure who you?'d get. I met some seriously gorgeous babes lije that. Up on Edgewater road was my preferred hunting ground

Yes the good old days of punting  reading the personal ads in the local paper not actually knowing what you were going to get. This is why I stuck to massage parlours back in the day because often you had a choice of 3 or 4 ladies then when you got to know the rota you knew who to ask for.
Quite often some newsagents would sell a monthly contact magazine and some adverts had a small photo of the lady in question ( and these were far more reliable than todays Viva Street adverts )

The first card number that I rang was in a phone box on the Charing Cross road. It turned out that the SP was in South Kensington!

I rang off, and instead went to a Soho walk-up about fifty yards away.

My first British punts were through the listings in the Daily Sport. They were certainly a mixed bag. My first punt organised that way was with a mature bbw in Huddersfield who had a twenty a day Embassy Regal habit . Those were the days!

25 years ago feeling horny in the early hours I drove 35 miles to Manchester and bought the Manchester evening news to find a 24 hour parlour.  The punt was actually very good.  The long drive home was soul destroying.

I remember when I was away by train, the first thing I would do is visit WH Smith in the station and buy the local papers.
Into the hotel and straight to the classified adverts.

I would like to think you mean "who" rather than "what", but I suspect it wasn't a typo and you are just unpleasant and mysoginistic.

OP just exactly describes my last punt , makes you realise how mollycoddled we are now with the net , websites , pictures , AW, review sites like here etc - and just what the “old days” were like and how sketchy this hobby could be !!!
