Author Topic: GUM clinic - male/female ratios  (Read 2184 times)

A few days ago I went for my usual check at the Dean Street Express (which is a brilliant place by the way - NHS at its best).*

One thing I noticed when I go to GUM clinics is the ratio of men and women getting themselves checked. As usual these clinics are always full of people but I would guess at least 90% of them are men. This raises a few questions...

Why is it that you don't see an equal number of men and women at GUM clinics; OK maybe not 50/50 but at least a lot more women than I can see now. To a certain extent, it can be said that men are more promiscuous than women but not that much really. Women are very liberated (as they keep telling us) and can be just as promiscuous as men. Add to that the huge number of prossies about, both natives and EEs, you would think there would be more women in GUM clinics.

Does that mean that men are happier to get themselves checked? Or does it really mean that men are being promiscuous with a very small number of women and all the rest are virginal maidens waiting for Mr Right?

Has anyone else noticed this?

* And by the way - in case anyone wondered - I got my clean bill of health from Dean Street Express

+1. A lot more. I reckon the 1 in 9 men who've paid for it according to the Daily Mail , is on the conservative side. The numbers in the GUM clinic waiting room don't lie.

On my last couple of visits to the excellent GUM clinic at the hospital in Swindon (https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=34903), I remember there being roughly the same number of men as women, in the waiting room. Quite a few couples, too, although in their case it's possible that one person was just there to drive, or to hand-hold.

I do remember one occasion when there were about ten women and two men. Not that my vague memory of two or three visits to just one GUM clinic in a place far from Dean Street and probably with quite a different demographic is necessarily statistically significant, but it suggests that sometimes, in some clinics, there are more women than men.

Or does it really mean that men are being promiscuous with a very small number of women and all the rest are virginal maidens waiting for Mr Right?
Lots of men shagging only a few women, you say.
Could that happen?
Tricky.
Hm.

Oh, hang on: what's this website about, again?

...and another thing I noticed at the GUM clinic, almost all of the women there were fucking gorgeous! Just the other day I was sitting opposite a younger version of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, a bit further away there was this pretty Cara Delevingne look-alike. The others didn't look like anyone famous but were pretty and young. But the one that had all the men stirring on their seats was this stunning, and I mean really stunning brunette, long legs, slim, beautiful face; every time she went to get herself a drink everybody tried to look but pretended not to. She ruined the effect though when she started talking on her mobile and sounded like a right chav adding 'like' fives times into every sentence. I wish she just kept her mouth shut.

I haven't seen many ugly girls there, obviously not getting as much sex as the pretty ones :D

The one I usually use also deals with family planning, so a fair number of the women there may just be seeking contraceptives - am going to give the dean street place a try though, you've reminded me its a while since my last visit.

Didn't like to say at the time in case any of you other reprobates was there as well but I typed my last message from the waiting area of the dean street place. All very clean and efficient, in and out within about 25 minutes even though the board suggested I'd have to wait 45. There were a few pretty girls in there, one of whom looked vaguely familiar but that's probably just my senility acting up. More blokes than girls but I did notice a little alcove where a few seemed to be hiding.

Lol think the greater number of men is cos lot of them are gay - remember its a soho clinic and lot of them thumb through the gay magazines on the table

Hah... stupid me; I completely forgot about gay men going for their checks. I guess I was too busy perving at the pretty girls there

On my last visit to a clinic (in quite a remote area) the waiting room consisted of.....

- A cute young girl with a face like smacked arse (poor girl had probably just been told her BF has got the clap?)
- A young guy who looked like he was the only gay in the village
- A fat old dirty bastard who looked like he enjoys getting his cock sucked by young prossies

(I'm neither cute, female or gay so I suppose the 3rd guy was me )

That's exactly how it is.

I agree with your original post Akauya. On my visits its also always been 90% men/10% women which is surprising to me as:

a) Aside from gay sex; women are more likely to pick up std's than men
b) women are more likely to get themselves checked out than men.

Oh and the 10% I've seen were definitely not Sophie/Cara lookalikes.

As has been evidenced on SAAFE women talk about being checked regularly, but in reality they don't and furthermore have a lot more bareback sex than they will admit. They worry more about being pregnant and not being able know who the father is and therefore not being able to scrounge off him than being infected with an Sti.

I go every 3 months for my check up, hardly ever see women there, always plenty of guys of all ages. Fact is us guys are a lot more sensible.

On my last visit 4 weeks ago in North London there was approx 11-12 people in the small waiting room - approx 4 men and the rest women from ages 19 to 40 - The young women were very fit and either Polish or other EE, a couple of English girls not so hot and a great looking mid 20's girl who was what you would see on AW as a £250 ph girl - The men were all under 25 except me who is double  the age.

Also all good with a clean record - asked for the paper results and got several reports back confirming - My ref was date of birth + mobile number last 4 digits so very P&C

I have to echo what others have said from outside London, in the last few times I've visited the GUM clinic  there have been more girls than boys. Some obviously came to hold hands but then decided it would be a good idea to get checked out. There are regularly couples too, I can only imagine on occasion that I've witnessed bad news being received.

In my local NHS the waiting rooms are segregated and judging by the arrivals the volume seems similar on both sides. There are often girls who wait in the male side while their male friends are waiting/being processed. All the staff are female too.

That Dean Street clinic looks like a really slick operation. Are there any others li,e that in West London by any chance?

I may pay visit to the Dean Street Express. This is the first time I've heard of it. My local clinic in South london is alright but I'm not too keen on their overall service. From my experience though, there have always been an equal amount of women and men.

I've been tempted to pick up a few women from a clinic in the past but I'd just feel awkward. I'm not shy at all but what would you really say to a beautiful bird at a clinic?

"Hello beautiful, do you come here often? What are you here for? Herpes?"

In Soho there's a dedicated clinic for "sex workers".  It's near Golden Square I believe. So that explains why you don't see prossies at Dean Street Express. As for why us men see less females in general at clinics. Most clinics set aside specific days of the week or certain times where they will see females only. Perhaps most women prefer to go to these sessions rather than the unisex ones?  Just a theory.
