Doe's anyone know if chinese massage 64 Upper Orwell St has closed down? No ad on Gumtree and phone not working. Thanks in advance.

Definitely closed and there is an upcoming Crown Court case.  The last time I walked past the 'shop' it looked like it had just been abandoned in a hurry.

Thank you, shame after all those years, they only had one girl at a time, and attendant, which l thought made them legal.

As per the above it is not so much as running a brothel, rather it is control of prostitution and human trafficking.

If you search back a bit further there are reports linking the above premises to prostitution in Gt Yarmouth and Norwich

Thank you Cimex, trafficking if true bit grim.

"conspiracy to corrupt public morals"   WTF????
A decent barrister could probably have got that charge thrown out of court.
It's arguably not even a valid offence, see

Although if it were deemed valid it could be used against AW, VS - and arguably review sites such as this.

The ‘corrupt public morals’ seems stupid. If they had been putting signs in the windows or taking out ad advertising full services then maybe. Noted coppers went in and asked about services.
I wonder if anybody on the phone list mentioned got contacted?

A possible custodial sentence? No mention of anything about trafficing, which no doubt the police must have thought was going on so a bit harsh maybe?

Looks to me like a desperation charge where nothing else would stick. Clutching at straws.
Even stranger was dropping the charges against the daughter when the mother pleaded guilty. That really stinks of something.

The "posessing criminal property" is a money laundering offence which could put her in jail. Might be as simple as fiddling the books, but again it sounds like a desperation charge.

Sledgehammer and nut come to mind

I think you will find that she has previous convictions for similar offences. At 68 years old she is probably hoping for a non-custodial verdict.

The original headline for that story on BBC was "Chinese medicine shop-cum-brothel manager"  :sarcastic:

Obviously more prudish superiors demanded an edit.

I still think there's something very strange about this case. She was charged with "conspiracy to corrupt public morals" and if you check history it's not even certain whether that's a valid charge.
Either the police were desperate to find a charge, or she's been deliberately charged with something that will keep her out of jail.
If you check the news report there seems to have been enough to charge her with brothel keeping and modern slavery/trafficking offences, yet she was never charged with those.
All very weird
