70,000,000 I think not!

Why's that?

The figure is quoted on the link. :unknown:

What's your estimate?

Watched the last half hour, entertaining show, the bookies got it right with Sweden followed by Finland runners up.She had hands like Edward Scissor hands.

I neither know nor care how many Tourists visit Liverpool, but, as we all know, statistics can be cherry picked to suit just about any purpose, so I'd be taking a very large pinch of salt with thdm.

The Swedes did a sensible thing and entered an artist who'd already won once - well done Sweden.

Perhaps Abba will represent them next year  :D

In that case, we should enter Sandie Shaw again  :) She's only 76.

I think some of the members of Abba will host Sweden Eurovision 2024, or if were lucky they will perform live on stage, in front of an audience for the first time, in many years

She would stand more chance of winning than that bird that represented us on Saturday  :unknown: ( I wonder if Sandie Shaw has found her shoes yet  :D)

Well I suppose we can all cherry pick statistics that maybe reinforce our preconceived notion of a place, but I was curious why you found the figure doubtful.

After all a few years ago readers of the travel magazine Rough Guide named Liverpool as the 4th friendliest city in the world.
About the same time,  a survey by Trip Advisor named Liverpool as No. 3 in the world, of top destinations to visit.

A few years later a YouGov poll voted Liverpool as the friendliest city in UK, and in 2016 Cruise Critic handed the city the accolade of being UKs best cruise port of call for the 3rd time in 4 years.
In 2018, Trip Advisor named Liverpool one of the top places in the world to visit and the best city in England outside London.

So maybe the figure of 70,000,000 tourists each year isn't an exaggeration.

Well not only her the magnificant Balshazzers feast follows With those great lines:

MENE, MENE, TEKEL UPHARSIN'
'THOU ART WEIGHED IN THE BALANCE
AND FOUND WANTING'.

Amazing that an old english bloke William Walton who hails from Oldham in Lancashire put that together along with things like "facade" in later times!

However i've got Two tickets and will be accompanied by an acomplished young Chinese painist as well!, the only bit we havent dedided is wheater or not we ought to dash home for the train or have a decent dinner at Hakkasan or Senior Sassi afterwards and stay somewhre being ever the gent thats two rooms but one lines in hope;)..

In this particular case, because it's to try and 'prove" that people should go there - say they've based it on Hotel occupancy rates - not *all* those people will have been there for Tourism - it would include people there on business, including prossies.

ABBA won with Waterloo at Brighton 1974.
Brighton FC today ending Arsenal's title hopes.

Here's some stats

At the tourism peak in the last 20 years there were 40 million visits to the UK from international tourists and 90 million visits from UK residents (no idea how a visit is defined, but there's going to be detail if you want to dig for it).

Did more than 50% of those visits really take in Liverpool?

Dunno, but there may be differences between the way figures are worked out. If I went to a gig or museum in a city I guess I may appear on the figures for tourism even if I already live there.

Anyway, wasn't Liverpool city of culture at some point? May it have been figures for attendance to events on that year which would have been significant.
