Thanks that's fine it seems the Italian ladies were not a pushover for France which is good news, a tighter score than expected

So, interestingly, it would appear that the reasons for a better-than-anticipated rugby match and a better-than-anticipated punt are sometimes the same?

Offline Malvolio

Always wanted to take a trip to Valencia
A spanish city on the coast, there must be some scope for punting
See a footy match & combine the two
[btw - Barcelona is a must do for this]
Not far from Valencia punting in & around Benidorm, heading north up the coast [away from Alicante] can throw up some unexpected gems
& apologies for going off piste, referencing our fave sport on the Costa Del [emptying the] Baleirics, where's me coat ?  :D

I had a jaunt to Valencia earlier in the year that involved punting - there's plenty of scope.

So England's women team "the red roses" thrash Italy 68 -5 in the woman's 6 nations tournament and are unbeaten after two games along with Wales. Can't see anyone stopping them and another grand Slam must be on the cards. Next up is Wales women in a couple of weeks time. A fixture I'm sure a certain Miss Wolf will be taking a great interest in.

They do indeed seem unstoppable and I'm fairly sure they will top the table again this year, however I'm very hopeful that Wales can at least give them a bit of a run for their money so to speak.
Turning the Welsh team professional has IMO made a massive difference in the focus and drive of the team as its allowed them the opportunity to commit fully.
So far there are no surprises in the game outcomes and yes I'm looking forward to the red V white clash

A big win for England's Red roses against Wales in the womens 6 nations championship. I expected them to win but I thought the Welsh ladies might give them more of a run for their money  :unknown:

Indeed a big win, however I don't think the scoreline reflects how well Wales ladies did against a very strong opposition,  the English defence were just immovable and fair play to them, they were strong there and clinical in their finishing

If you look at it in comparison to how vast the gap in previous years then its clear to see how far Wales have come in the short time they have been professional, onwards and upwards.

The French match will be a much closer fought game and Wales would have learned plenty from their game today so there is hope

Well that was a game of 2 halves if ever I saw one

Well more a 60/20 split tbh,  Wales were not there on the first half at all and the first few minutes of the second until they literally got the wind behind them.

Those 20 mins where Wales scored 2 tries the French had no answer to them and that's the Wales we need to develop.

The French English clash for the slam is going to be very exciting,  if France play as they did in the first half this weekend,  free flowing and dynamic then England are going to struggle to contain them.

Hopefully Wales put in a good performance against Italy for 3rd in the table which is much better than we would have been if we hadn't made our players valued by turning professional.

Englands red roses should have had more against Ireland but missed most of their conversions including one right in front of the posts , (a kick even I could have converted  :dash:)  Not the best performance by England's ladies ,they took their foot off the gas in the second half. Should still have enough about them to beat France though. I didn't see the Wales game so will take your word MissWolf on their performance  :hi:

So England's red roses win the women's 6 nations grand Slam as expected.  Talk about a game of two halves though.  England led 33-0 at half time but only just held on to win 38-33 at the end.  :scare: The Welsh women beat Italy 36-10 to claim 3rd spot, a result that will surely please Miss Wolf  :drinks:

Misswolf is indeed happy with that result and the game against Italy,  much more focused and clinical.

England were lucky the French didn't turn it on for 90 mins and only came to life in the second half or I feel there may have been a different result.

The Welsh result shows what happens when you invest in a team and take them from part time amateur to full time professional

Offline ulstersubbie

No disrespect to Miss Wolf, but I have little knowledge of the women's game. It was good to see Scotland win, well done to them. England obviously are streets ahead of the other home nations, hopefully the Scottish women will catch up at some point, but it's Scotland......    :D

if the game was 90 minutes the French may well have won but rugby is 80 Minutes

Rugby games are always more than 80 minutes as they keep on playing until the ball is "dead" or kicked out of play so they are often 90+ minutes

i have never seen a game go on for 10 minutes continual let alone often, or even with the odd penalty award 10 minutes is a long time

Yeah me too, unlike Rugby League where the games do last only 80 minutes but the ball is in play more in Rugby league

Saturday was not a good day to be a French Rugby fan of either code. As well as the French women's team loosing to England narrowly in the 6 nations ( rugby union) the mens Rugby league team lost 64 -0 to England and earlier on in the day the France womens Rugby league team also lost 64-0 to England's women Rugby League team  :D

The problem with Rugby Union compared to Rugby League is there are too many delays such as re setting scrums so the games always go over the 80 minutes.  In League not so many delays so the games finish at 80 minutes.

Not convinced. Yes a lot of time is lost to setting the scrum in Union but no time is added, both games stop after the clock goes red at 80 mins and the ball goes out of play by a tackle or touch  in league or a penalty is involved in union

Appalling behaviour and gamesmanship have a lot to be blamed for.
Currently the female of species provide far more entertainment for my money. As in ladies football
No histrionics. Fall down? Get up and get on.
