Socioeconomic status has been well linked to health outcomes for decades now; that isn't 'bollocks,' - its an established fact. Wealthier areas, even within the UK but also across countries, have longer life expectancy as well as lower rates of alcohol and drug use which I believe was the point made. As an aside, wealthier people are more likely to be married - and being married alone statistically adds a few years on to your life expectancy.
As to why some women don't take care of their looks, its because they (usually) don't have to work for them (especially the body and metabolism parts) and therefore don't value them. A 9 or 10 woman gets to 18 - 20 years old and has all this attention and thinks its because she is in some way special and it will always remain. But 'protect' is a scale, not binary - yes, eating junk food isn't helping, but I guarantee the same girls that are eating junk food are also using 'wrinkle reducer cream' and whatever other rubbish the multi billion dollar beauty industry is selling them.
