So went off for a punt yesterday.
Fancied a beer or two afterwards and so caught the train/tram to a boozer I like.
Stayed a tad longer than I normally would do and ended up getting an Uber back home.

After being in the house for a little while. I realised I couldn’t find my phone.
Wouldn’t answer when I rang it. Couldn’t find it with that app.

Bollocks. I must have left it in the cab.
But no. The feckin things dropped out of my pocket as I’ve got out of it and the drivers only gone and drove over it as he backed out of the drive.
It was there, smashed, lying forlornly as I looked out the windows.

I’ve got an old phone I’ll use.

Should have bought feckin insurance shouldn’t I.

Lost mine a while back, must stop keeping cards in the case, applied for new driving license, digi card and Cpc card, cancelled 2 debit and 1 credit card, bought a new phone.

Next day, opened the dishwasher, and there it was, neatly in the rack as if it was placed the between small plates  :D, no I did not  :D, must have fallen from pocket.

Just one word if your phone should get wet!

Never put it in the microwave oven that will destroy it, unless you might want to do that!

If you do need to dry it out then a warm airing cupboard and if it does get wet switch it off or if you can remove the battery, do that.

If your lucky it may work OK but water and the impurities in it are elctically conductive. OK Pure water is a good inslator but your not likley to dunk it in distilled water by accident!

Punting phones should be thought of as disposables!

Bowl of rice in a warm place sometimes works, not always, mine recovered but battery life is well down and the screen is blotchy, handy enough to get my contacts though.

At least you didn't leave it in the SPa gaff - I dread to think what the bill would have been!

Steve -- careful statistical examination of the thread suggests it is better to throw your phone into a puddle than under a bus.

Maybe you could use some of your old phones to do a statistical analysis. Must include time spent trying unsuccessfully to repair, time waiting for Amazon to deliver silica gel, and which SPs looked better on a broken phone as opposed to a wet one.  :)

Cannot believe that anybody would consider putting their phone in a microwave oven 😂

Look on the positive side - at least it hadn't been half-inched, with the problems that can cause.

Better to just get a cheap phone that you can afford to write-off, than pay for insurance.  Unless you are one of those people whose life isn't complete unless they have the latest high-priced gizmo.

If you put water on a phone or laptop there is only ONE important thing.  REMOVE THE BATTERY assuming it's not fixed permanently.  You have less than an hour to do it.

Water is more or less harmless on it's own.

The problem is that there are always parts that are powered up, even when it's OFF.

The combination of metal and electricity produces fierce corrosion which will make the metal turn to non-conductive crystals.

If you remove the possiblity of any electric current flow then you can just wait for it to dry naturally and there is a good chance it will be OK.

All this stuff could have been coated with waterproof lacquer like all the military stuff has.

They simply don't bother on consumer stuff.

I’ve got this habit when punting. I put my watch, keys (if driving) and phone in my shoes.
Not if it’s a place where the SP wants you to leave them in the hall you understand.
So I don’t usually forget anything.

Donkeys years ago I left my Raymond Wiel watch at a SP’s.
She very kindly took care of it and I collected it a week later. Yes there are some trustworthy ones out there.

The phones knackered and I await a new sim to slot in my old one.
This is my everyday phone by the way……… the one we are talking about.

Oh it just had to be that one didn’t it. Not the bloody shitty punt phone that was safe and well in my fuckin backpack.  :dash:

So was it this one or haven't you got round to reviewing her?

I'm just imagining...

Great punt crap comms felt pissed off the rest of the day "not her fault"

So as a day out, I guess "neutral" wouldn't quite hit the mark...

Nope.

But it is an SP I have seen before and as I do not have anything further to add to a review I’ve already done.
A review will not be forthcoming.

But it would be a positive if it were 😂
