What a bunch of fu**ing hypocrites we can be at times.

The West has been navel gazing trying to find whether they should have handled Russia differently in the last decade or so. Whilst Putin was ignoring another country's sovereignty we were happily waving our flags at the World Cup in Russia.

Now, Qatar is next. Human rights are non existent. Slave labour, LGBT and women are definitely second class citizens yet we ignore all of this to put our own sporting interests first???

Qatar should never have been awarded the World Cup in the first place but you can thank the crook Sep Blatter who ran Fifa at that time for that.

All completely valid points. Unfortunately whilst countries like Qatar and Saudi pour millions into having events like F1, Football and Boxing, money will continue to talk and it will never end. Agree sporting organisations should be doing more to ensure human rights standards are met

Selfishly I am looking forward to the WorldCup though lol

Yeah and Russia 2018 should have been England's but we didn't give them a bung whereas Putin would have had no such qualms

I fully understand the need to spread the host countries around for the WC and Olympics etc so that different continents stage them and how it could potentially be good for emerging countries to be involved in hosting but they should also have to meet a minimum standard regarding things like bribery; corruption; human rights etc

They probably do meet FIFA standards  much like so many owners in English football somehow meet the fair and proper ownership rules.

FIFA bent as fuck. It’s the peoples game , we need a breakaway but nobody has got the bollocks to do anything about it.

I tend to think where we do business with these countries it should be for our benefit, not theirs, particularly financially.
