Author Topic: Adultwork data breach  (Read 2547 times)

So I recently brought the password manager dashlane.

They have a great feature on their premium account where they will search your various credentials against know data dumps/breaches.

Dashlane today notified me my Adultwork credentials had been found on the darkweb as part of a data dump.

My username and password are totally unique to Adultwork.

Thing is I can’t find anything online about a breach on Adultwork. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

A quick search shows reports of suspected false positives from Dashlane’s password breach system. Explanation is a bit techy.

The password manager I use occasionally gives false positives on low security passwords, easily spotted.

You can also register with External Link/Members Only generally quite trusted I think. It just checks if your email address(és) are in any known breach.

I get no notifications on haveibeenpwnd, none on avast’s search function either.

FYI this is the notification I see in dashlane:

how to take action if my email is anyway affected? Would simply by changing my password do the job?  :unknown:

Yes. Changing passwords every so often is standard recommended practice. Preferably up to 11 long using a randomly generated one that includes at least one number and one special character. I imagine Dashlane will do that for you? If you’ve gone off Dashlane, 1Password is another leader. One that syncs your passwords to all your devices may be a priority. 2-step verification is added protection needed on some sites though it can be bit of a pain as well.

If you’ve used the same password  for anything else you should that too of course.

I put my punting email address through a data checker thing once (sorry I'm not techie so can't exactly remember what it was!) and it threw up my password that i used only for aw was available on the darkweb, cross referenced to my punting email address. So it seems that aw data security is either shit or they actually sell on your details. Either way, I change the password on aw regularly and also make sure that it's nothing like any other passwords I use for real life stuff, as well as having a completely different punting email address (and phone number).

I checked out my punting email address.... the only breach was for an IM app I have never downloaded or used!
