The question is probably what is the most life changing, the relatively low death % of covid cases, or the potential life changing outcomes of STDs...
Hard to quantify without figures. However, in simple terms death is probably the most life changing event.
If someone had the relevant figures, rather than a “low death %, or potential” generalisation, the choices would be different.
E.G:
25% chance of catching Covid through DFK, with a 1% chance of death,
against,
25% chance of catching gonorrhoea due to unprotected sex, with a 1% chance you get further complications.
These figures are undoubtedly incorrect, the chances of either occurring could be lower or higher. But they show the potential dilemma we often find ourselves in.
