Hi chaps. Not sure if this is the right place for but thought I would share. During lockdown was worried about my punting phone being discovered so disposed of it. After a little research this week I have stumbled upon Devyce through an advert on Facebook, External Link/Members Only Basically a 2nd mobile number on your smart phone. You download it, get a code through on email and bang you have another 07 number that can be used to text and call, that is undetectable. I also use it with a 2nd WhatsApp (business) so have another mobile number with WhatsApp on my phone for £7 a month. Anyway thought I would pass on the info! Cheers.

There are many apps that allow you to do that. I used to use one called Text Me to have a second number for work but now I just use a second phone.

I guessed as much. I am a little behind the curve when it comes to tech!

Isn't it riskier than having a punting phone? Does your wife or girlfriend not have access to your mobile?

Also seems to be unlimited calls and messages which was the deal breaker for me!

I just have the app notifications turned off and on the back page of apps. My wife doesn't have any reason to use my phone.

£6.99/month for unlimited SMS and 500 minutes (then 2p/min).

Doesn't seem to include any data. What does that cost?

Offline asiansurfer

I certainly won't be using more than 500 mins a month! Not sure on data. Runs on wifi / 4g.

I've never seen any of these apps offering mobile data, and why would you need it?

It’s not another phone connection, but a virtual number.
It can’t offer you data as you are using your existing phone and account to access the virtual number.

Does that mean you can't use WhatsApp if you don't have WiFi or does it use the data associated with your existing number?

I think you can, you just need to install a parallel account via parallel spaces using the new number as the registered number. Maybe someone else knows 100%.

I've never seen any of these apps offering data. Just use the data you should already have on your personal phone.

I have a Samsung phone which has a secured folder. You can run second instances of apps. I only have Chrome, WhatsApp and Hushed which provides a second number. You can password protect this folder and change the icon so it looks like another app.

Agreed a punting phone is probably the most secure, but I'm already having to carry a second phone for work.

With Secure folder, it uses data like your regular apps either 4/5g or WiFi.

You could configure the WhatsApp account to show as the devyce number, but the connection would be made through your existing numbers connection or WiFi depending on how you were connected.
If you have WhatsApp installed on the existing phone and active on that number then the WhatsApp messages would show as the ‘genuine’ number unless you are able to successfully reconfigure it to the other number.

It could be risky to get right without exposing your real number.
I use TextMe for virtual numbers, and though I’m not in a relationship to protect, I still wouldn’t want to be mixing the use of a virtual number with different apps.

The Devyce website doesn’t show how it manages the WhatsApp connectivity.  If it just provides the number then you are using your phones WhatsApp and it will use the number configured for the account - and you can have only one number in it at a time
If the Devyce app itself contains a separate internal WhatsApp then you could have your standard WhatsApp app with your normal number and your Devyce number running through your data connection

Exactly that. You only need the virtual number once to register whatsapp then you can continue using it even if you no longer have the number. I actually run whatsapp on a completely different phone to the ones who’s number it uses. The only potential issue is if you have a short term number someone else may be assigned it after you stop using it and also register for whatsapp. They’d be able to see your messages and get a pretty big shock   :scare:

I just downloaded WhatsApp for Business and use my Devyce number. 2 separate Whatsapps with no connection between the two.

Errm... so your out-of-town punter can find out where you live with online maps??

It's just another app that gives you a second mobile number. Surely you'd already have data included in the package for your main number from your network?

I used to use an app called Text Me, and used the number provided as my work number. This app was on my personal phone, for which I had a contract with data included.

I use an app called hushed for a 2nd virtual number
Just a sits in the App Library on the back of my iPhone
Notifications switched off and prevented from showing on search menu
Unlimited text and calls for £7.50 a month
Only downside is no picture messaging
You can also send all calls to voice mail when not needed
I pay the £7.50 via AppStore so it will appear on my monthly invoice from Apple, but GF has no access to that email account

Then I use WhatsApp for business too using same virtual number
Once again hidden in App Library, no notifications and hidden from search menu

If anyone really wanted to find it, they would have to go through every app in my library and really know what they were looking for
I even have to go into AppStore and research the app to find it myself

#1 rule is to not leave the apps open
For me this is less risky than a 2nd phone that would create questions

I have a similar setup with "Another number" and Whatsapp for business on Iphone
