The entrance is not quite opposite (it's one down from it). You can probably see the entrance from inside the pub and certainly by drinkers standing outside. Anyone who knows what going on in the place is probably another punter. As long as you have a good reason to be in the area (as all punters should do) then you should be fine. I didn't feel particularly conspicuous and it was a Saturday afternoon when I went.

I wouldn't agree that you would have to be a punter to know what's going on. Years ago there was a pub I went to frequently enough. I'd usually stand at the corner of the bar in a spot where you could chat to the bar staff and other regulars while also watching the world pass by outside. You could clearly see an entrance directly opposite that hosted a brothel with 2-3 girls inside. It was there for atleast 6 months, probably a lot longer. A game developed where we would try to spot a new punter heading for the door, then guess at how long it would be before he came out again. 50p or £1 each in the pot, closest time wins the lot. The betting mostly fizzled out when we realised the bar staff were always facing the window, so had started to recognise the regular punters and their time keeping habits, giving them enough of an advantage to win more than most.

Hi mate. I would call it a stones throw away. But it’s a very cosmopolitan area, most of the drinkers are probably city workers who have just finished work. Aside from the example I gave it used to be that the pub was one of the places you could pick up info about the location of the local whore. People no longer as aware of what is going on in their local community, even if it's just to turn a blind eye to it. That old pub I mentioned is gone now too, it's all flats now.
