Using your criteria, all bouncers, muscle, maids, receptionists (at shops) and shop owners are pimps. Even the hotel concierges and taxi drivers, who arrange meetings. Are the people who operate the popular advertising sites, like massagesmeuk or massagemeinlondon, also pimps?
Now, I've always understood that
real pimps seek out, advertise for and
External Link/Members Only the SPs, or
place them with other employers. There are 'agents' who find work for Chinese masseuses, for example, in the London shops. You can find them on Netbirds or other Chinese advertising sites. Yes, they're the pimps - but is the receptionist at the shop? I'd say that she's just a paid employee. If a Chinese girl walks in off the street or phones a shop, gets taken on, as a masseuse where is the 'pimp' in that set-up?
In these Chinese flats - and there are loads of threads about them ( JayEZ2K knows many) - there are, very often, single, male, minders. He's there to keep the peace, be the bouncer, act as reception, keep the place clea and get the food in, in some cases. But - he's an employee. He doesn't hire or fire. He doesn't get the profits.
The real owners (the pimps) are in the background and only make fleeting appearances (to collect the takings, drop the condoms off). The system has been in existence, in London and the South East/East Anglia, for years - I visited my first one, in Ealing, about ten or twelve years ago. Maybe more. I've seen the same set up in Golders Green, Acton, Hammersmith, South Harrow, and other parts of London. Not for some years, though, but reports on UKP show that the modus hasn't changed or gone away.
I've referred to them as 'crews'. Well, I'm searching for another term. From what I've seen, and including press coverage of prosecutions, it's like a franchise operation. There's a 'Head Office' and then 'Regional Outlets', where a Chinese woman or a couple run 2, 3, 4 or 5 flats or houses. Rarely more than 5. Not all employ the 'minders' but many do.
