Location not to far from Clapton station on the main road entrance open to a complex of flats a bit grotty, looks small from the outside. Do you mean the stretch between Bethnal Green tube and Cambridge Heath station by Metropolis gentleman's club? That was pretty hairy back in the 90s/early 2000s.
Or do you mean the mile north of Hackney Town Hall between there and Hackney Wick or Homerton where the eye-opening strip pub Bridge House used to be? I'd imagine even in these modern redeveloped times you'd be taking your life into your hands walking along that stretch at night.
 
BTW does anyone remember or has experienced the raunchy stag shows that the landlady and her Scottish boyfriend used to host at the Bridge House? Always a good night's entertainment but your eyes had to peer through a dense blue haze of thick cigarette smoke to see anything.
