I haven't been to Bournemouth "on pleasure" for years, but I remember the halycon days of ten years and more ago, when there were a number of brothels in the town, and they operated surprisingly openly. At that time the police seemed to turn a relatively blind eye as long as no-one frightened the horses (or indeed the whores).
Bournemouth Blue in Drummond Road was the premier establishment, until it over-reached itself by starting to operate a 24-hour service:
External Link/Members OnlySoon after that it was closed down. And it wasn't long before the owner of Aalishas, in the Triangle – which was probably the No. 2 brothel – was arrested and prosecuted, and her establishment too bit the dust.
Purely out of intellectual curiosity – and for no other reason – I was wondering whether Bournemouth has a fairly easy-going brothel culture these days. Or whether such brothels as remain are small and discreet, as in most towns.
