Unaware? Surely even the dimmest girl must be aware she's committing some kind of fraud-related offence? Theft? Obtaining money by deception? Anyone have experience of this first-hand?

I don't know about that mate. Its pretty obvious. I'm glad the rozzers take it more seriously these days and of course, ignorance of the law is no defence.
Particularly bad when vulnerable men e.g those with leaning difficulties are targeted. Makes me very angry.

May I ask the basis for your opinions on WG's take on this? What makes you think they don't see it as a crime? I know you're generalising but what's it based on? A thread on another forum that's had strong responses from lots of SPs?  Or have you discussed it while punting?  I can't imagine many girls would raise the subject but perhaps I'm wrong. Or is it something you've experienced personally? Im genuinely interested.

Ive had several bid on RB's then want a deposit to cover "travel". Clearly scammers as highlighted by their feedback (or lack of/hidden). Have reported to AW and crimestoppers neither seem arsed.

I know I can get 10 whores that will ask for a deposit and most likely not turn up. Its so common, I think some SP don't think you can prosecuted

good to know , this sort thing of is very common for those of us on SA, loads of girls ask for money upfront and then disappear.

im sure most of us have the common sense to realize its a scam but sometimes if the girl looks really good and lays down a warm story it can be hard to say no.

As far as I'm concerned if they ask for a cash deposit then they can whistle for it...
I appreciate there are vulnerable guys who might fall for the scam but all we can do on here is to keep emphasising that you do NOT send cash or equivalent as sadly you will often be let down

I see. Although I'm not sure I agree with that line of thinking. It's clearly an offence and whilst the would-be fraudster (if they're attempting to defraud someone then this is what they are, not a whore/hooker/WG etc) perhaps can't articulate which offences they're committing, to say they didn't know they're breaking the law is just ridiculous. That said, I'll bet plenty say precisely that in the interview room   
Of course they know it's illegal.  The point is that they don't care beyond the likelihood of them getting caught.
I don't think it's accurate to assume that a WG asking for a deposit is a scammer as some do and have been operating for years with excellent reviews. It must work for them. At the other end of the spectrum are the poorly-written ads on Vivastreet that fucking scream I AM A SCAM. How can someone fall for it? But some people must or the scammers would give up.
Personally, I'd never pay a deposit no matter how much I wanted a booking or how certain I was the girl was legit.

I'm pretty sure that everybody, WG or not, knows that nicking money from someone is a crime. I'm sure they also know that most of us wouldn't go to the police if we got conned. I know I wouldn't

From being a user of the Seeking Arrangement website, there a loads (thousands) of girls on there who request cash up front, deposit or whatever else they call it.
Many are completely obvious scammers, many are extremely talented fraudsters & robbers. Some are simply asking for a small advance and might be genuine, but as a punter you should never risk it.....

As I understand it, contracts for sexual services are unenforceable under UK law.  So if you pay a WG upfront for sex and she doesn't show up and deliver, there is nothing you can do - except report her on here, of course.

Unenforceable yes, but that doesn't mean a crime hasn't been committed. Only that the courts cannot force the perpetrator to supply the agreed sexual services by way of resolution. That will likely come by way of compensation and justice e.g forcing the perpetrator to pay back the money and being appropriately punished.

I like this law stuff very interesting, but surely SA is slightly different, as we are not requesting sex we could instead say we are asking for companionship, also the girls on SA are by SA's own admission not escorts which would further strengthen the stance that the contract is not for sexual services.

just today I had a girl form Birmingham asking me to send her petrol money to meet at a hotel for sex, now lets say I had gone through with it and she didnt turn up at the hotel and meet me, doesnt that qualify as a broken contract.

at what point can i say the contract is for meeting me at the hotel and not specifically to have sex with me

Sir lance-a-lot, I've just had a read through your friends storey of losing money to a WG. Terrible situation. I wouldn't have clue of the legalities surrounding a situation like that though I'm sure he looked into it at the time.
The sort of situation described on this thread is quite different though and thankfully a bit clearer in terms the law.
A contract (or lack of therefore) doesn't even come into it. Actually, neither do sex workers necessarily.
This is about fraudsters targetting a victim into parting with cash through deception. It really doesn't matter that sexual services may have been agreed to. The crucial significance is that no meeting happens at all and any agreements made were purely to dupe the victim out of their money.
Bare in mind that many (if not the majority) of criminals employing this technique will be neither female, nor a sex worker. Just an arsehole that sees easy money and less chance of being reported to the police due fear of exposure.
I think it would probably fall under "Fraud by misrepresentation" or "Obtaining a money transfer by deception". I'm really not sure, though I'm hoping someone here does.
