Asda pharmacy  used to offer generic sildenafil over the counter, subject to a 10 minute chat with the pharmacist. Does anyone know if they still do this service?
I had been buying through Lloyds pharmacy  online, and pickup instore, but my local Lloyds has changed hands and is now no longer a Lloyds.

Use Superdrug pharmacy if you need to get same day prescriptions, fill out online form, then pickup in store a couple of hours later. Otherwise just order from Menschem free next day delivery and much cheaper overall.

Generic sildenafil is not available over the counter. It is POM. The only version of Sildenafil which is available OTC and subject to pharmacist consultation is Viagra Connect.

You therefore need to complete an online doctor consultation and then pick up from Asda. External Link/Members Only

Sildenafil is generic Viagra as I said you buy it online then pick it up instore from the pharmacy no questions asked just like you would do with Asda I've bought stuff from Superdrug no issue. I don't see the difference unless I'm missing something?

Viagra is the brand name Pfizer use for the drug Sildenafil, Viagra isn't a drug, Sildenafil is. Since Pfizer's patent expired other companies have been able to manufacture and sell Sildenafil.

Yes that procedure agrees with what I posted. You buy it online, Doctor approves prescription  and you pick it up from the relevant pharmacy, be it Asda, Supedrug, LLoyds etc usually within a few hours.

However that is not the same as Catweazle's opening post which said this.

A Pharmacist can only supply the branded Viagra Connect (50mg) and not generic versions. This requires the online consultation and subsequent prescription

Certainly  in years gone by, I would  go to Asda, ask to speak tovthe pharmacist.  You would sit down in the private consultation  room,  and the pharmacist would go through a questionnaire,  at the end of which you would go back out into the store.

A few minutes later, the pharmacist would appear  at the counter with your sildenafil, discreetly packaged, you'd  pay the fee and bingo!
Now, having read what has since  been said, I wonder if  either:

A) the online input by the pharmacist instantly  fed through to an in-house doctor who would formally issue the prescription

Or

B) the whole  procedure has changed.

I has used the Asda pharmacies many times in the past.

For what it's worth -
I have bought from Superdrug online around 6 times.
On each occasion I have selected the 100mg 'generic' option which is cheaper than the price they quote for the branded Viagra option.
But in every case I have received the  genuine Pfizer Viagra product.

I could be wrong but believe that 100mg is stronger than the one that they provide in pharmacies? (50mg?)

110% correct.

Lloyd's pharmacies (including those in Sainsburys) will sell a different OTC branded sidenafil, as well as Viagra Connect ... Aronix.

It works out slightly cheaper than Viagra, and both are OTC.

In agreement with other posters, and to avoid arguments over "splitting hairs" : it isn't strictly speaking a 'generic', (the pharmacist can't substitute any suppliers version, only that particular brand licensed for OTC sale, whereas for a true generic,on prescription, the pharmacist can dispense any version (be that Viagra, Aronix, a different brand OR non-branded)

Duff (or differently stored) batch?
Placebo (strictly speaking : nocebo) effect?
Effect from the different packaging the drug is in in the tablet, as the drug itself should be identical?

A double-blinded study would be a logistical nightmare, but if you have a "punt buddy" get them to give you one (the meds, you filthy sods!) without telling you which it is, to see if there really is a difference for you (or just stick with paying a few quid more for the version you find works best for you)

Thanks for that. Viagra Connect received P-Med classification in 2018 and as you suggest it seems some other 'brands' have now also applied for and achieved that status such as Aronix. There is another one called Eropid (also slight cheaper) and possibly others? Not sure?

They are all 50mg tablets and it seems a maximum of 8 tabs can be dispensed. Larger quantities requires a prescription. Looking at this further it seems Pharmacist guidance is to only supply OTC if there is history of a previous prescription. Not sure if that is adhered to?

A further complication is that it seems Pfizer now also manufactures a 'generic' version. Still branded Pfizer and the same diamond shape, but white instead of blue and without the VGR stamp. Work that one out.  :D
