It does make me wonder whether Dr Magnanti (who is clearly a highly-intelligent woman) had made her entire "Belle du Jour" blog up as a joke while she was writing her PhD thesis . As for prostitute /escort: the legal definition of "prostitiution" is "the offering of common lewdness for the payment of money". If Dr Magnanti has no proof she ever was a WG it relies on taking her word for it of course. She said she worked for a London Agency who charged £300 an hour of which she got £200, if that Agency still exists and the owner is the same he or she might recall her obviously, but that would mean believing the word of a pimp. There wont be any tax paid records or formal employment records to prove it so I think she will find it difficult to prove it. I am assuming no punters who recall her would come forward but again even if one or more did that's not proof positive. And to sue and win she might need proof positive.

Personally my guess is she was a WG as she has said. What makes a prostitute is a person willing to sex sell for cash, simple, and that includes those deluded women who offer massage with a Happy Ending (HE) but don't view themselves as WGs, they are in law and in my opinion.

Looks like legal manoeuvring to me. It says in the article she is issuing a counter-suit, rather than starting litigation. If she's richer than her opponent (quite likely), that's often done to force a settlement or frighten the other side off, as costs will increase substantially.

a) finish their thesis on a pittance grant,
b) blog elaborately in an informed well written and well read way about being either a high class escort or well paid cock sucker (delete as appropriate),
c) because the thesis was so fucking easy they had nothing better to do until their grant ran out
d) because for some reason there was no reason to get on with other research and apply for jobs in the field during that valuable grace period

No she won't that's only in criminal cases, in civil courts you only need balance of probabilty.

I've seen her give a lecture and she is quite an intelligent woman and has an attractive personality and good presentation style. She has got acne scars, but they are not especially ugly, and puts her in the girl next door category. I reckon she'd be good but expensive. What I don't like about her is the way she has exaggerated and embroidered the tales she has told. I don't believe most of it, and that's why if the belle de jour thing turns out to be completely untrue I'd really LMAO.

Quite amusing though.

Brooke Magnanti strikes me as a highly stressed individual who blogged about her life as a prostitute and then the genie escaped from the bottle changing her life irretrievably. If all this is true then she's a hypocrite too, but isn't there some of that in everyone.
