Has anyone ever got this, and if so any tips on what to do for a fast removal?

I believe I have got this from the girl I last saw. And am worried about seeing anyone else until I know its gone.

I went to boots today and paid £10 for one tablet of 150mg Fluconazole. Talk about rip off.

Would that be enough, and 150mg powerful enough, or is there anything else needed? One tablet seems a bit miserly.

Would rather not go to my GP or a GUM clinic if its just a case of easy fixes as I would not like the idea of going to my family doctor and pulling back my foreskin infront of him (there is nothing visable there anyway its just things are itchy under there).

Are you sure it is thrush? Self diagnosis can be a very silly thing to do. Itching can be caused by many STI's thrush being only one of them.

If it is thrush you may not have caught it from anyone as it happily breeds all by itself.

The women members of the board are probably more used to treating this condition in its milder form than us guys.

I would reserve oral fluconazole for persistent cases and/or systemic infection but that's rarely necessary. 150mg isn't a particularly bad dose but people will often receive a course, say seven days. But who wants to pay £70?

I would probably suggest a topical cream, e.g. canesten, as your first line treatment.

I agree with FP, lots of things can make you itch. Certainly if you don't respond quickly (and probably not a bad idea anyway) would be to get yourself checked out down the gum clinic. At least your own GP shouldn't be there, unless he's been frequenting the same places you have  ;)

In my experience 1 tablet of fluconazole is enough and I've never heard of anyone being prescribed a 7 day course, in fact one of the brands is actually called "Diflucan Once" ie one dose is all that is required. It can however take several days to clear up, and in the meantime you can also use the cream which is sold alongside. Most women will suffer from thrush at some point in their lives and usually more often than once, so we do tend to know more than males on the subject!

Take the tablet, sit back and wait.

By the way here is a link on fluconazole, if you scroll about halfway down the page you will see the dosing recommendations for Thrush - the higher, more frequent doses are for other conditions.

If i were you i would go to the GUM just in case. You can give false details if you wish so there is no record on your own medical records, in my experience the staff arent concerned about who you really are just getting you treated and out asap. ;)

Yes indeed, fluconazole won't work if it's something else. Here is another very useful link too, and you can actually develop thrush all on your own too (as it does state), also believe diabetes can be a trigger too;

Yes but how exactly will they diagnose it.

Is it a case of Pull back your foreskin while I look under a stethoscope type embarrassment or what exactly?

I think they take a swab, but will also examine the area too. You have a choice, nasty itchyness, or having someone look at your willy. Hmmm.

Well, no not there in the reception area.  :D

They take a swab and send it to a lab to clarify the cause of the symptoms.

Listen AnthG.

Man-up.

Call NHS Direct 24 Hours a day- 365 day a year on 0845 46 47 (and no that telephone number wasn't a typo- its really that short).

Tell them you need the nearest telephone number of your GUM clinic to book and STD Test.

Go and get a test (remember STD tests are only 100% accurate from the last 4 Months of having sex and 3 Months for a lesser accurate testing).

They will ask if you have slept with Africans, Gay Men and Prostitutes etc ONLY to advise you on the risks involved in such sexual practices. Its not a Police/Legal sting and before you say you're embaressed or that you have something to hide............they've heard it all before- ESPECIALLY cheating husbands and prostitutes.

Thats it. This is a public board- not a Health Advice service

also don’t tell them you had sex with any Eastern European sex workers as they will scare you shitless by over exaggerating risks ..

you can also use the internet to pinpoint your closest gumclinic and if you decide to go to the walk-in clinic get there very early to get seen promtly.

anyone can get an out break of thrush as most of us carry the virus in our body's. just go the the doctors or buy the canesten cream over the counter if you can, its not a big deal so dont worry about seeing the girl again, most likely it never came from her,

Offline workinallweek

would you have to go bb to get it or would owo carry the same risk?

It is possible to have oral thrush, but that's much rarer indeed and this link says it can't be passed on;

thrust can be all about the sugar levels in your blood too....

my ex was a diabetic, one that didn't pay much attention to his bloods, he'd REGULARLY get thrush,... cottage cheese under his foreskin, and when he pulled THAT back sometimes it would split.... his own fault tho.  canasten cream or natural joghurt both apparently do the trick.

and some antibiotics too, ... if i ever need antibiotics, i make sure to get erythromycin instead of amoxicillin, cos the amoxi gives me thrust every time grrrr.

either way it doesn't take long to clear and isn't life threatening!

I'm being picky - thrush is a yeast infection, not a virus; quite a different beast.

100% with you on going to the GUM clinic though - all frequent punters should on a regular basis: it's the STI you don't know you've got that will kill you...

go to the GUM clinic first. If it is thrush then just buy and use some athetles foot cream. as quite rightly posted above, thrush is a yeast infection as is atheletes foot. the fungicide in the cream will kill it. if not get a fungicidall tablet.

As an occasional sufferer, I always keep a tube of Canesten handy.  First sign of an itch, I start using the cream.
I find condoms can bring it on if they are too tight. Other times it appears for no reason.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd share my recent experience.

Since I hadn't punted for a couple of weeks I hadn't shaved my balls and they were starting to itch. I ended up scratching like mad, especially during the night. Over a couple of days I also started to get itchy around the groin area and inner thighs.

First I tried E45 to try and ease the itching, but it ended up burning and making everything very red and still itchy. Moved on to Sudocrem, usually used for nappy rash. This helped a bit but by now my cock was getting itchy as hell. Decided to take a bath and put some Radox in it. Now this was my first big mistake. I am sensitive to perfumed soaps etc. I woke up in the morning and my cock was like an elephant's trunk, really swollen. After googling the subject I decided I had thrush. One natural remedy is a salt bath, so I took a couple, which eased the itching a bit. The next morning the swelling had gone down but my foreskin was a bit tight and sore, as if it had cracked a bit. Didn't look anything like the pics in Strawberry's link though

Eventually called the doctor. Spoke to the nurse and described my symptoms. She said it sounded like a fungal infection, but she didn't say thrush. She suggested a cream like Canestan would be good, but prescribed me Timodine. After only a couple of uses symptoms started to subside. All clear in a couple of days. I didn't catch it from anyone, it was just a natural reaction to all the scratching and sweatiness that followed.

If its thrush it's really nothing too much to worry about.
It's not an sti , although it can be "caught" from women.  It can also develop on its own, although rarer in men.

Best to get checked though

We all have the thrush virus in our system, i got it using a condom when with a escort, not from her, the head of the penis gets red blotches on it, a bit of  itching, went to the doctors and he gave me clotrimazole cream, clears up after a few days, just make sure you have thrush, hope this helps

Offline sxman

I got thrush about 2 years ago, it's not an sti but still go to eliminate them anyway, plus when I went they gave me Aqua cream which cleared it up within a couple of weeks. Them tablets are not very affective on men apparently, that's what the clinic said, I took 2 of them and they did not work.

Get down ton the clinic, they have seen it all be before and they will advise you to the best coarse of action.

I also went to the GP to make sure I was not diabetic.

Some time ago i ended up with fungal infection as well - it wasn't punting related. I spoke to my friend who is a nurse (we work together in nursing home) and she looked and told me to use anything with Ketoconazole. What a relief it was, it took 2-3 days to cure. :hi:

The Timodine has had similar success; only a couple of days to clear up, but it was prescribed. Nystatin is the anti fungal agent and there's no sting or burn. Bit weird putting a dollop of it on the tip of your knob, but otherwise no problems using it.

If its Thrush [Candida Albicans] you can use Canesten Cream for five days, three applications a day.

If you want to prove it yourself - buy a decent microscope, understage lighting, Eosin Red stain, a spirit lamp and a packet of slides.

Take a swab, wipe the exudate on the surface then liberally pour Eosin Red over it. Gently flame underside of slide, few seconds and then flush top surface with distilled water. Shake to dry and view on stage at x1000. Lots of white comma like images on pink background. Or use Meth Blue and see it dark blue commas on a light background.

If you've used dettol/tcp to clean your old fellah then that is a way to start this off.

Better still, go to a GUM clinic and get it checked there and then; they have the expertise and the kit .... and the treatment. Don't risk having a pointer for something more serious.

Gonna go and buy all that kit to test prossies at the start of my punts.  Might have to go for 1.5hour bookings though!   :scare:

But seriously going to the GUM clinic is sound advice.

If you suffer from frequent thrush infections you may find that you have an allergy to latex.  Try non latex condoms.
