At one time when someone was banned all their reviews automatically moved to discussions.

And that can cause complications even now, with what were perfectly good reviews no longer linked / indexed. Just because a member got banned, it didn't mean his reviews were invalid. I always thought that was something that OldAdmin got wrong. I've forgotten who it was now, but I came across a girl this week where her earliest reviews were no longer indexed because of that old rule despite there being no questions over them.
And if we were to go back and start delisting reviews of banned members, how much damage would it cause? Anyone checked to see what else would be affected? For instance Sar-Major is in that top 150 list and there's bigger questions over his reviews than there are over Tarzan's. Once you start deleting it would be come difficult to know when to stop

Obviously not all reviews should be moved to discussions, a member banned for being a general cunt to other members on the forum wouldn't mean his reviews were dodgy but the reviews of a member that has been shown to be using the forum to gain favours etc shouldn't be trusted.

Again it boils down to members reading reviews and taking from them the information they find useful and acting accordingly. If they think they can't be trusted then they should ignore them, great in theory but some members don't carry out due diligence and take what they read as gospel.

We have lots of bugs to iron out and so far these are being raised randomly.  Post anything that is not working properly here. Put as much detail as possible.

This is not the place to suggest any new functionality.

General chat will be deleted.

Thanks.

Best keep this thread about FORUM ISSUES and read the opening posts - this is not the place to suggest any new functionality.

that just seems to be the Secret Benefits popup, looks to me that it's being flagged because it's a popup, not for any viral reason

FFS don't tell me this means that much to you that you have actually posted about it.

Do you realise the the member you are asking about logged on made 1 post and logged off soon after and hasn't been back since.   :unknown:

Hi,

I use the forum from my phone. Is there a way of identifying/ searching for the most well reviewed SP in your specific region?

E.g. I want to know who is the most well reviewed in London or Manchester

As a forum issue why did you not post it in the dedicated 'Post Forum Issues Here' thread?

Hi folks. Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place.
I'm getting An error has occurred warning - Due to abuse from trolls, etc, etc...
It just started this week. I don't have a VPN on. My ISP and Mobile network are affected. I'm temporarily typing this on my punting phone as all my normal devices are locked out.
I've never had trouble before.
Has anything changed? Or is it me?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks guys. There are so many variables here, I know it's tricky.
I don't have adult blocker on isp or mobile.
I'm using chrome browser (and always have). It's up to date.
Hopefully whatever is going on will return back to normal for me.

When I log in using my usual device or mobile I get the error message.
My punting mobile is working logged in at the moment.
UKP hays always worked good for me up until now.
If it's just me, then don't worry about me. Just in case anyone else is having similar difficulties.
Thanks.

Report yes but we are discouraging members pulling others up about contributions, there are too many considerations now so it isn't straight forward.

Date registered on the site is not the same as the date verified and able to post is one then there's how often they use the site. Information members do not have access to.

Does ctrl + F not work?

Only if you list all pages I suppose but then you're forced to hop sequentially back and forth, not much fun once trawling a full thread that's 20+ pages long.  A returned listing of only the posts with matches to the multiple search words e.g. location, SP name and nationality, that you can scroll about easily and then click to open a post fully would be far more wieldy.  Massage parlour thread is a prime example.

Online Billy no mates

Stats on the home page show most online ever figure dated as 15th September 2023, around 6 months ago.

This isn’t cast iron evidence but would appear to indicate an increasing number of users/members, since before 2020.

Look at the number of reviews per month on https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?action=reviewstatistics

There's no significant decrease or increase since 2018

Offline Doc Holliday

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this question .. perhaps a Mod/admin can advise?

Overall membership numbers are not a reliable indicator of forum activity and therefore whether a forum is thriving or not. Ultimately only a small % of members make any contribution and then a smaller number of those again make a large contribution.

Numbers online only indicates how many are reading not contributing.

As Magnetico says number of reviews (which is the main raison d'etre of UKP) appears to be holding up but the data is heavily skewed due to Covid with a huge drop in 2020 and then an equally large bounce back in 2021. Data prior to 2018 is not available  for comparison but also there is a huge spike in reviews in the summer of 2018 for some reason which if you compared 2018 alone with 2023 reviews would be down.

The best indicator of forum activity and content is the number of new topics started and more especially the number of new posts. The data for new posts goes back to early days of UKP in 2010 and shows a steady increase peaking in 2018 (434k) and then dropping in 2019, then considerably further in 2020 due to Covid and bouncing back to 2018 levels in 2021. However they have then dropped off markedly to 244k in 2023.

This would suggest content is dropping. This is often a natural decline with punting forums as there are only so many variations of punting topics, before they keep repeating themselves and we have seen this a lot lately.

Off topic reintroduced in 2020 has compensated to an extent (though not hugely) to this drop off effect.

Finally with regards to charging new members, it is difficult to evaluate any effect with this, but I would think it highly unlikely this policy is going to be changed anyway so is not really relevant.

EDIT It should also be noted that for technical reasons there were almost no new members from 2019 when the new owners took over. This was not rectified until 2021 and so there was a surge in new memberships from that date which has also fed into the post Covid data etc

Doc i'm not sure if it's also a direct factor however some boards like OT don't show up in peoples post count so i'm not sure if they also show up in the "Master data" you refer to, I may be wrong but i'm sure I read that posting in the main board also doesn't show in the post count but I believe it used to so we may or may not need to factor this in too for a fair comparison  :unknown:

Just my feeling about the NW board is that it's a lot quieter than pre covid, seems to be less topics started and less input into them, i'm not seeing nearly as many new topics asking if anyone has seen XYZ

I'm also a bit puzzled by this as years ago people would have been lynched with the pile on of usual suspects immediately having a go at their review count or that the last review was 2 years ago but members shouldn't be worrying about that shit now

I'm wondering whether so many long standing members who haven't actively contributed have decided it's best just to lurk "Just in case" which would be a real shame  :unknown:

Stopping all the posts attacking each other reduces the number, but makes the board better.  It really might have been 20%+ of the board posts attacking someone, joining in, or defending yourself.  Good change.

And there are so many threads posted that some topics (e.g. anyone tried viagra?) are really gone for good.

My feel is that the number of helpful posts is as high as ever.

Yes posts in Off Topic and General discussion do not count towards an individual members post count but they appear to be included in the Main data (see below)

It is worth noting that Off Topic is the fourth largest Board in terms of number of posts, although the majority of contributing members are unlikely to post in it. However the data for Off Topic only includes the current Board and not any historical ones which have been deleted. Note also that the London boards, (as you would expect) totally dominate the forum.

More of a user issue, my AV kept blocking this website. Even after popping it onto the Allow list. I had to run a complete diagnostics, you know the standard ipconfig, winsock, etc. The only thing that worked was using the IP address of the website on the Allow list instead, I had previously had the URL on the Allow list. For reference I use Malwarebytes.

I figured it was an issue entirely on my end as I could access the site on different devices, i.e., my phone.

Previous times it's actually been the Shemale and Sugar Babes affinity links (the blue buttons top right) that actually cause the problem

I’m getting this at the moment too!

Even trying to ping UKP address it comes back with ‘could not find host’ - I thought it might be a DNS issue but I can access it via my phone.

I’ll try the IP address in allows on MB and see if that sorts it 👍

I think it's this pop up that MB doesn't like (see image)

that's typical of MalwareBytes
It's worth trying the flush DNS command anyway just in case it's caused by a browse hijack of some kind

Click the Start button. ...
Click All Programs > Accessories.
Select Command Prompt.   (in administrator mode)
In the command prompt window, type ipconfig /flushdns.
Press Enter.
You should see a message confirming that the DNS Resolver Cache was successfully flushed.

I had tried that and unplugged router for 30 mins, cleared cache / internet history etc and still the same.

It is MB that's had a recent update a few days ago as the hosting company I have 3 websites with was affected as well, I couldn't get onto cPanel and had to whitelist it with their IP address - they've flagged it to MB as my sites don't contain anything remotely iffy.

Microsoft are the next bunch of fools I've got to log an issue with as none of the Windows 11 machines are updating two recent updates and it's past being an April's fool now  :D

Is the revenue from the LondonTS.com popup ad substantial-  becasue it makes logging on to the site discretely much more difficult.

one of the beauties of a text based user interface is that you can use it reasonably publicly without causing any offense or embarassment (care needed were photos included in reviews).

but having that pop up on log-in (esp the first time it happened, without warning!) is problematic.

Not sure where the right place would be to post this, so apologies if this is the wrong place.

My profile is showing I registered my account on the 2nd of October 2023, which is correct, however, I only paid the yearly subscription cost today (8th of April 2024). So the question I have is when would my account be up for renewal? If it’s 12 months after registration then I’d have lost around 6 months, but if it’s 12 months from today then no problem.
