You are exactly right and I've been careful with my money during this so I can enjoy in the future.  There could be bargains of the century coming right up but I need some female attention quite badly.

Either set and stick to a budget or ask what they want in return to see if on the same page
If they come back with a figure then ask if it’s for staying over but gloss it up with nice hotel, meal, drinks or if they just want to meet at hotel for discretion
If you are poles apart on the money then just say it’s non negotiable and be prepared to move on quickly
