Officers and partners have been working out of #Stansted Airport this week, Monday 16 September to Thursday 19 September, and spoken to more than 1,500 passengers to raise awareness of victims of human trafficking.
As part of a National Crime Agency week of action, codenamed Operation Aidant, our officers worked with Border Force, the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, specialist staff from the Sexual Abuse Referral Centre and the charity Justice & Care, to identify potential victims being trafficked into or across the country for the purposes of sexual exploitation.
Over the course of four days, we monitored more than 20 flights coming from countries including Bulgaria, Moldova and Turkey, and included flights where vulnerable people may have been trafficked out of the UK for the purposes of offences being committed against them.
We conducted enhanced checks on four people throughout the week, providing them with additional advice and support. One referral to the National Referral Mechanism has been made."
Note that they rarely give accurate details of who has been stopped or picked up at the border
Interesting that this week a new direct air service from Southend to Iasi in Romania commenced.....
