Author Topic: Using a 2nd sim rather than a 2nd phone  (Read 672 times)

Rather than have a 2nd phone for punting, which could raise issues if found, does anyone simply have a 2nd sim?

My phone will take a 2nd sim and I believe an esim? But can this be kept secret, so I go into that via a hidden setting? So a message will not flash up? The problem would be if messages got added to the normal message app, and I assume you can have 2 WhatsApp accounts with the two numbers?

I have one phone and two Sims. I also have normal what's app and what's app business both registered to my two separate numbers. Normal what's app only allows you to register one number. About the messages popping up this is all down to your phone's notifications. You can silent all notifications including calls and text I'm sure in your phone's settings. This exact topic has been discussed numerous times. I'm sure you'll find your answer with a quick search.

I used to have a second phone. But it was difficult to hide, and have in the right place to access. And explain, if found. I was constantly worried about it.

But, I now have a second sim in my regular phone, it can be turned off, stopping texts / calls coming through when you don't want them. It's far easier for me, but I am methodical and OTT about cleaning all evidence from my phone after a punt. Nothing kept, names, numbers, texts, nothing.

Android also has a "secret folder", which can be renamed, password protected, and a logo chosen. Where you can activate a second WhatsApp account, snapchat, whatever you need. I install, use as required, and uninstall the apps again everytime. As I said, OTT... but has worked for me for years.

I have never quite understood the worry about having a second phone. I have multiple phones as they are my old personal phones so if I were to use one of them as a punting phone it’s no problem. I would never be asked about them as my partner knows they are my old phones. Can’t you just say that if you were asked? Say it’s your old phone? Or when you upgrade use your current personal phone as a punting phone.just some ideas.

This, just say it’s an old sore phone in case case your current phone breaks or gets lost.
Put a lock code on it that only you know so is she tries to turn on say “dunno, not used for years”

I must admit, with more and more ladies preferring WhatsApp it does complicate things a bit... Especially when they insist on using provocative images as their profile pic!

That’s fine if left in a drawer but planning to get using SA again or some other site for hookups where I will want to chat more and take to work etc

I also use a second sim - makes it a lot easier when trying to arrange a punt during the work day. Having 2 phones out at work would just look weird, having everything on one phone means I can carry on as normal.
Just need to be very careful and regimented about deleting everything afterwards.
Most phones support parallel apps for second instances of whatsapp. Again - just uninstall the app after the punt and delete the phone numbers.

I dont like clutter - I dont keep anything round the house like that. Sell off old unused stuff, trade in or flog old phones, etc etc. An old unused handset, of the type I had (no touchscreen/ smart capabilities etc) would definitely arouse suspicion, especially if found in a hiding place...

At least this way, I can use my punting sim securely, safe in the knowledge that 99% of the time it's in my hands. And the 1% it isn't, it's safe as everything is wiped / protected.

Exactly this, what prompted my move to second sim was being caught at work on my 2nd phone. Didn't cause any issues, I just told them to get out of my office, but in a home situation that would be more difficult.

I have 3 phones.
One provided by work - I also use it for personal calls/messaging (not porn/punting)
One for personal - I set this up mainly for banking cos if I change jobs it’s a nightmare to change everything
One for punting, browsing here etc.

I try not to have all 3 out at a time, 2 is easy to explain to nosey fuckers.
Also keeping charged etc, so would be good to combine my personal with punting with 2 sims

All IPhones, 5, 6, 8 I think - don’t really pay much attention - all provided by work, I just hang on to them when they give me a new one.

I’ve never noticed when I swapped the SIMs if there is a space for another Sim.
Does it keep contacts seperate.
Apple and google are a pain in the arse, always trying to access your location and showing shit you wanna keep secret

I have this set up on my phone. It takes 2 SIM cards, and I can manually turn on the second sim when I want.

Also my phone gives me the option to parallel certain apps, WhatsApp being one of them so I use that to arrange punts. With that second app I can also hide it so it works out wel for me

OP, do you mean a dual sim phone, or a 2nd sim, that you would replace your main sim with?

A dual sim phone can be tricky. I have a few mates who are sparkies plumbers etc and who use them to separate work stuff and private stuff without carrying 2 phones; basically they switch off the work sim at certain hours so no one bothers them. However, they all say it can be quite confusing and the risk of texting or calling someone from your private number while you thought you were using your business one is quite high. If you are a sparkie and give Mrs Brown your private number it's not the end of the world; if you text your wifey from a mysterious new number, or call a prossie from your private one, it's a whole different story. I wouldn't risk it but it's up to you.

Having a 2nd sim and constantly swapping it with your main one is a pain in the arse, I wouldn't want to do it. If you do it in the street you risk losing the sim and freezing your fingers in the winter.

Plus, whether you use a dual sim or a 2nd sim, where would you store the contact numbers and the texts? If HotBlondieForYou texts you her address, do you memorize it, copy it in a password-protected section of your phone then remove the text, or what?

An app like Hushed is much better. Only when you login the app it shows you your texts, call history contacts etc, all kept separate from the main ones of your phone. Log out and they become inaccessible. Explaining what that app is would be much easier than explaining a 2nd sim (I didn;t want to give my real number when I sold my old car...). The only disadvantage is that it doesn't give you a second whatsapp number. Oh, and it's not as reliable as an ordinary number, so I wouldn't use it for work, but for punting it's fine - unless you make hundreds of punting-related calls and texts every day.

I know there are ways to have a 2nd whatsapp account (google is your friend) but I have never tried meself.

Offline rockinghut

I agree with using an App like Hushed. What I typically do is only have the app installed when I'm actively punting, and delete it afterwards. You can also be sneaky and change the app picture, name etc to hide it while it's installed, or even have it under a different profile to give another layer of protection. It gives much less opportunity for being found, and makes it a bit more manageable and less stressful (for me at least).
