Looks like Backpage's days as an ad space for escorts are very numbered. The CEO has been arrested on pimping charges as he flew into the States and warrants are out for the two main shareholders.

That leaves mainly VivaStreet in the online ads market - bet their management team are cancelling any plans for trips to the US!

That's crazy I wonder what will happen to all the adds on the site, I've personally been using backpage alot more now as they seem to have better pictures of escorts plus they have videos on there

Backpage is the market leader for prostitution ads in the US with well over 25 per cent of the market - and the Americans have a habit of making an example to discourage others.

Remember the CEO of BetonSports who got three almost three years for racketeering (illegal online betting) when his flight changed in the US?

It's one of those grey areas - when does carrying an ad become pimping/pandering - but if you read the coverage the authorities claim they overstepped the mark by encouraging ads and teaching people how to keep them legal even though they knew the real purpose. At least Craigslist actually has flats and washing machines for sale too - my local Backpage had 15 items for sale and about 200 'adult' escort and massage ads.

Put "backpage sting 2016 " in to google and you will see the number of arrests of working girls across the USA who advertise on backpage. Thank good I did not go punting while in the states.

Yeah, seen a few of those documentaries about the stings. You'd have hoped the american coppers would have other priorities, but it's still such a religious place, and the media love a bit of salaciousness. Although, there does seem to be more of a problem with domestic trafficking/Pimping in the US, and much more of a hard drug problem i guess. It is crazy the resources that go into these 'stings' though.

It's well known for fake profiles and bait and switch.  Most of the pictures are stolen off internet models, same with viva too.

Yes, its a joke. They call it ''the land of the free''. Its anything but free unless you like guns.
