Punting - a hobby or a form of addiction?

Up until recently I punted around every 1 or 2 months or so as the urge took me. Nowadays it seems to be getting to every 2 weeks or so which I am starting to think is maybe a little too much(?). Like most, I have a punting budget - which I never exceed. I like to think of it as a kind of hobby but I suppose there is a very thin line between that and a form of addiction (such as with alcohol and cigarettes for example). I suppose if I can afford it and enjoy it there is no harm done. What do people think - can punting be a form of addiction? Maybe I am just guilty of thinking too much about it and should not over analyse and just enjoy myself while I can? Anyway, I am just putting it out there for your views/experiences.

i think anything you enjoy can quite easily become a bit of an addiction just the same as gambling,smoking,drinking etc but as you say if you can spare the money and enjoy them why not-you only live once.
To be honest if i had more cash i would punt more definately.

I would say it's habit forming rather than addictive, but if you've gone from once every 2 months to once every 2 weeks, then that sounds like the slippery slope to me, time to check yourself in when you get down to once every 2 days.

When it starts to feel like a chore or you’re doing it for the sake of it and aren’t getting the enjoyment out of it like you used to, it’s time to stop and take a break.

I treat this like it is, a luxury hobby, I punt when the mood takes me and not for the sake of it.
When I stop getting enjoyment out of it, I will stop, I don’t have an addictive personality so I can’t see this becoming addictive for me, or any hobby.

Addictive when I first started.
I had 10 bookings all within 2 months, haha.

Since then, I’ve created a punting budget to ensure it doesn’t turn into an addiction.

- Every payday I put a % into a separate account (punting fund)
- If there’s money in there, I can punt.
- If not, I have to wait until next payday
- No exceptions

If you exceed your punting budget then something has changed, not sure under what name you would call it. It's odd exceeding punting budget for me only becomes an issue when I am suffering Punters Alienation [PA]  . Never when I am having a whale of a time.

As much as I enjoy punting ... and as happy as it makes me more often than not ... if I'm honest with myself, it is a vice ... a vice like porn, like smoking, like gambling ... and such vices can of course be addictive.

I would hope I'm sane enough to keep myself reigned in ... and indeed so far I've managed to stay within what I deem to be a reasonable punting budget and frequency. I hope I am not kidding myself.

Even when I had a good sex life with a girlfriend and a wife (at different times) I still went to see prostitutes. Nearly always, they were a lot worse looking than my girlfriend /wife.

Well almost "in my sixties" but it itsn't lack of libido that holds me back from punting more often - its lack of ladies that I fancy / are my type offering incalls (i won't do outcalls to mine) at a "reasonable" price - I have set myself a limit of £150ph which for the Bournemouth area is,  not particularly high, and often not high enough for slim, english ladies under 40.

Re the question of "addiction" - the important question is - can you stop if you wanted to? I'm sure most of us will say "yes, of course I can, anytime I want" . But could we? Although I don't punt that much now days, it is only lack of decent supply so I cannot really answer that question.

It might be depressing to you but it is not to him. Leave him be, if that's what he wants to do then that's what he wants to do. How do you outgrow video games? Video games are a form of entertainment, it does not matter what age you are. I personally still play video games every now and then but still partake in other activities as well. It would not be the single biggest entertainment industry in the world by quite a fair margin if it primarily targeted a demographic that does not earn money. The bulk of the market is made up of people in their 20s and 30s, these are the people who were around and growing up during the days when video games actually targeted children. Infact I personally know a fair number of successful people, some who have earned enough to take an early retirement in their 30s, who spend plenty of time on such a juvenile activity while also having hobbies ranging from snowsports to skydiving. This is not 1990 nerd valley.

I absolutely concur with this post i can trawl through AW or this site for hours and find it difficult to find decent girls at the right price that i want to see. There are so many time wasters, fake profiles/pictures, english girls who charge too much, i dont see Romanians or girls who call me love/darling or other such terms. I think i was a bit obsessed at one point but the things ive just mentioned have certainly cured me !
