If I do push the boat and buy a flagship phone right now it'd have to be OnePlus One or Oppo Find 7 both around £300 but even then that's more than needs to be spent on a decent smartphone. You're right but I always negotiate my renewals. £35 a month with the usual unlimited calls, texts & 4G, unlimited calls to the UK when in the EU and 150 free minutes from the UK to the EU. I travel a fair bit and my monthly bill used to be much higher due to roaming rates, but since I managed to get this deal it's worked well, so why not take the free phone that comes with it.

You're being pedantic. It's free provided you take out a contract and yes different phones may require a higher tariff. My point is it's a good deal for me as I was spending £80-£130 a month on roaming calls before I renewed my contract. I've saved money and and received a free phone of my choice. If I wasn't travelling often, then I would reconsider my option and look for a cheaper alternative but as it stands each person has different uses for their mobile and this works best for me.

I have an iPhone 5 (as my main phone) and it is the last Apple device I will ever buy.

Making older devices run like shit due to new ios versions takes the piss, but not being able to restore the previous version and Apple telling you tough shit is appalling service.
