You're the one who's absolute bollocks. Pontificating endlessly about things of which you know absolutely nothing.

He was fired because the MD ♀ did not want anyone in the organisation associated with prostitution - end of. If you can't get that into your thick head at least stop barging in with inane and stupid comments that have no relevance.

I'd like to hear of a successful action brought by someone claiming unfair dismissal when they were caught seeing prostitutes and then sacked. Just one, Mr clever dick Cab. Bet you can't manage to find one.

Aspen. As you have stated on another thread your a master at debate and can wipe the floor with anyone when it comes to a intellectual discussion.

I think your being a bit of dick on this thread. A couple of people have just asked general questions with regarding the statement you have been made and you have got arsey with other posters.

As I said I have interest in employment law and contracts. With regards to those winning a unfair dismissal case having being fired for visiting a whore in there private life. I cant find any but then again I am at a bit of loss to find reports of where UK employers have fired people for this in the first place and then taken the case to an employment tribunal.

Absolutely no-one knows and that is the way it will stay!!

I know a couple of friends that visit escorts who will happily talk about it and there in lies the problem, no capacity for secret keeping! I happily nod along as the recount their stories and pick up on anyone good they mention  :D

Problem is our friend Aspen can't handle it when someone disagrees with him or questions what he is saying.

The only people who will truly know why this bloke was fired will be the MD and the bloke himself. The MD might be against visiting prostitutes but if it's outside work there is damn all that can be done.
Is wasting some time at work having a look through profiles a sacking offense ? If so I'm potentially fucked if found out.

If your looking at AW or other Adult sites through the internet on a work computer or device phone or tablet then youre running a major risk. Most companies have an internet policy and it tends to be Gross Misconduct. So Paul I would clear your internet history at work and keep off the adult sites at work

Without going into too much detail it is my laptop, no formal policy exists but it is during the time I am technically being paid to work.
I always browse incognito but also clear history and cookies just to be sure.

It sounds like your employer isn't that strict on web use/abuse. So you probably don't need to worry too much. However be aware that the technology to trace the web browsing activity of each client pc within a network is commonplace these days. How that works: data/traffic is "sniffed" at a central point in the network and activity reports derived from what's been seen. So if you have no choice but to do that personal browsing when going through your employer's internet connection best use something like a vpn service to properly mask your browsing activity. Personally I wouldn't use my employer's resources for any punting-related activity. I think it presents too big of a security risk to me and my secret hobby  ;)

At this point, I'll join in and admit that I'm in IT Support. I'm frequently asked to monitor users' internet access from the firewall logs. These are completely independent from any history on the user's  laptop or desktop PC. I don't like it, but it's one aspect of my job, and I can't refuse to do it.

I don't know where you work obviously, but if you use their internet connection, and if they have a half-decent firewall, you'll be tracked. Date, time, URL's accessed, local IP address, username.

When I want to check AW at work, I go out for a smoke and use my phone and my 4G connection.

np Siadwell. Question for you: how would the network/firewall at your place handle an end user who sets up a vpn tunnel from within the network to an external vpn service provider? Would the traffic/connection be blocked by default?

Our firewall doesn't have VPN enabled. It can be, but it's not.

A request like that would need high-level authorisation, and would probably be refused.

None of the users have local admin rights on their pc's, so they can't even install a printer, let alone set-up a VPN.

OK. Thanks. I know VPN works at our place but not a viable option at yours by the sounds of it.

I have told no one I know, but I was drinking with a stranger last night and told him.  Had a great old chat.  He thought punting was a crime. He seemed to love my stories.  Was a 40 year old virgin type of guy.

Now I wish I hadn't.  What if I meet him again?  I'm an idiot sober, and a double idiot after a drink.

All of the company has a policy on pc use, no adult sites/shopping/facebook/ebay , If you abuse the policy, depending on your position and pc history the punishment can be severe.
I do Nothing on the work laptop, I only access adultwork and here via a pc at my friends where I stay ( a machine I gave to him)

He punts as well but not often.

You are talking shit

Every time I notice your name you are saying the same thing. It's like a tape loop going round and round. Everyone talks shit except you Ho Ho. Maybe you keep looking in the mirror. It's boring.

I told the story as a warning of what can happen and is absolutely true.  It wasn't for your benefit.

I can name the person, the company, and the lawyers that handled the case - though not in public on here, obviously.

I used to punt with two friends but we are all married now. I don't know if they still punt but I certainly don't tell anyone I punt. It's a private thing. I take the view, as with most things in life, tha loose lips sink ships

Yeah, maybe. But anyone who goes with prostitutes is a bit of a dick anyway. There isn't much intellectual about fucking with prostitutes, or talking about it, so I wouldn't bother.  And, you have grossly misquoted, but it's academic.

You won't see any reports because they probably don't exist. Anyone who is sacked will have a different reason given. If you have any involvement in employment you would know that. More than one company I have worked at have discrimination policies which are illegal, but they still get around it. I've been on courses that tell you how to fire people quickly and stay within the letter of the law, but not the spirit of it.

The message I wanted to deliver is that if you punt and it comes to your employers notice, don't be surprised if they dump you. But that message is being diluted by the nit pickers and bullies. Empty vessels make the most noise, and there are several who hang around this forum because they enjoy being abusive bullies, and don't they make a lot of noise while they are doing it.

I don't know the technical details of the case. But it's not difficult to fire someone for something like that, and they'd stand little chance of succeeding in a claim of unfair dismissal (how many have you heard of?). They might have got him on something like doing it when he was supposedly visiting a customer (he was a salesman).

Is it not more likely he was fired for skiving  from work ? Whether he was visiting prostitutes or going home and watching Bargain Hunt is irrelevant he was doing on on work time so therefore a sackable offence.

The shame that is imposed on you if you get found out is awful and can completely screw up your life, and I've seen it happen. It happened to a work colleague once and he got fired. The IT dept found cookies on his desktop and investigated him and discovered he'd been to a prostitute and they fired him on the spot. He just disappeared from the office one day and a guy from IT told me all about it a few weeks after.

He was fired because the MD ♀ did not want anyone in the organisation associated with prostitution - end of. If you can't get that into your thick head at least stop barging in with inane and stupid comments that have no relevance.

If this is true then your MD could find themselves in hot water and on the wrong end of a unfair dismissal case.

Yes they could sack him for visiting a WG on moral grounds (if there was a clause for moral grounds in his contract) but only if they had proof and a few cookies on the computer isn't proof. If it went up in front of a tribunal then they would want and need  to see tangible proof. Was there a disciplinary meeting held? The way you have worded it suggests not. Again this could cause your MD big problems. This would also need to be documented and minutes showing what was discussed in the meeting provided to the tribunal.

Most companies if they wanted to get rid of someone for the above reason would go down the internet usage route and dismiss under gross misconduct. But without seeing notes from the disciplinary meeting there is no way of saying if this was the reason they gave.

How is anyone bullying you or abusing you? Get a thicker skin and stop taking yourself so seriously. As you say yourself empty vessels make the most noise.

Yes the message you wanted to deliver is a good one for many. Especially those that punt on company time.

What I do in my private time is my concern, I don't ask questions when my wife goes out, she doesn't ask when I go out. Works lovely.  :D

I don't like to lie so I tell a few people what I do. Some others I talk about it in a manner where they probably think I'm joking.  As I now live on my own, everyone else probably feels sorry for me.

I would never browse at work or in work time
Too easy to get caught
That's what iPhone/iPad are for
I have only one friend who we compare notes with and we have discussed and been on punting holidays for years together
Regular one of us sits in the car untill it's his time to go in
We always go for a meal /coffee after and sitin the far corner of a cafe to discus notes
We also go round to each others house away from the wifes to discuss all time greats

Remmebr we even had a graph on a hotel wall in Prague with scores in the doors
It helps of you have a close friend to talk too and advise
That's why I'm so glad I've found this forum after Preston punters closed down
Not much info on another message board
This place is great just wish I found it years ago

I would never visit dodgy sites FROM WITHIN THE OFFICE NETWORK - in any case the net nanny stuff would prevent access (accidentally done this once or twice, whoops!)  However even on the open internet I know the company is always running its own malware and since the latest redundancy program was announced I'm only going to use my private netbook from now on when out and about, pain though it is.  As mentioned above, might be unfair dismissal, but even if you win a few grand it's not going to last long, unless they have to reinstate you.

As regards telling people:- absolutely not, just suppose your boss who has been married for 25 years and whose wife looks like a dog's arse finds out - slightest tinge of envy perhaps, combined with tempting him to do the same, or persecuting you while denying he wants to, not good emotions.  Funnily enough, I was being sent on a work trip and the new acting boss came over and said "It's all arranged - hotel, travel, prostitutes the lot" - I laughed it off and later made a joke about how bad the company-provided callgirls were (and yes I HAD taken the chance to visit one while up there too!) but he could have just been guessing for all I care as I have never confided in anyone.
