Author Topic: Posting reviews-a technical question  (Read 827 times)

I'm not technically minded, and in a perfect world I would rough out a review on here soon after a meeting, save it and then re-read and probably edit it before posting a little later. But I can't see a way of saving text either here or as a preview-it's either post it or lose it when you log out of the site. Is this correct or am I missing something?

Offline Alanroy

No way that I know of to save a review for later. Maybe use a notes app on your phone to keep the main points, copy & paste onto here and fill in the rest from your memory! I use the same template each now I've got the hang of how it goes on here

Draft it out in an email without specifying a recipient, the save it as a "draft".  You can go into it as and when you please to edit and hone it.   When done, simply cut'n'paste it into a review on here.

Please just dont take weeks to do this if it's Negative review.  These are often more valuable than positive reviews and can save folk here from potential poor experiences and wasted money.

I tend to use the notes section on AW. Not too much detail, just if they were any good, bad, boring, talked too much, lazy, had B.O... etc etc  ;)

Thanks to all. I'm glad I wasn't just being dumb. I'm running Windows 7 on a laptop, which doesn't have a clipboard, so cutting and pasting can't be done easily if at all. It's not a major issue, back to notes on parchment with my quill pen as before.

Offline mike63

I would post a negative review quickly. However, the one in the pipeline will not, I think be considered earth shattering in its conclusions.

W7 has a built in clipboard. Just select/highlight any of the text in any of the applications/programs then right click using the mouse and "copy" the highlighted text.  The you can switch to here open a new review and simply right click in the review text section and select "paste" to copy it in.

If this is not working tehn visit Youtube and do a search on Windows 7 cut and paste, and younsee various videos on how to fix any clipboard/cut'n'paste issues.

Type and save it on a word document, then copy and paste in a review here. Are you sure there's no clipboard? anyway copying from word's no problem.

Thanks for the answers. Some time ago i googled querying the clipboard, and the first entry says it can't be viewed in windows 7, and recommends downloading a clipboard viewer. I did that, but whilst you can see what you've copied, there seems to be no way to instruct it to paste. Since reviews here are the only reason I'd use the function, it's just not worth my time and very dubious skills trying to sort it. But grateful to you all for trying to help.

Word has it's own clipboard, just highlight it on the document and right click, copy, then paste onto your review.    :hi:

In Mac, Stickies is a cute wee program that behaves itself with minimum resources. Doesn’t sync however (which could be good or bad depending on your situation). Mac’s Notes does, but can be buggy.

Remember that Word, apart from resource hogging, makes backups obsessively unless you disable it. But that might interfere with more serious use (which is presumably why you paid good money for it in the first place).

What is quite useful — if not immediately answering the question — is making heavy use of the UKP preview function. (Note to self — must use it more efficiently).

If the prossie wasn’t at risk of disappearing, you could use the AW notes function. She usually disappears after you post the review.

Offline mike63

I think I'll stick to my tried and tested method of pen and paper for notes. Your comment on the preview section is well made I think.

Don't all versions of Windows have Notepad built in. Write on there, save, edit, then copy and paste onto here when ready.

and yes I can confirm that Windows 7 supports copy/paste

I am not sure why you would not just create a file in word, cut an past into the UKP report field when you are done then delete it?  In my view a common fault in reviews is they do not contain the basic information that a punter needs.

The summary provides a very good checklist

Quote
Include in your review ('''LLL&S'''):

''* Provider's name plus LOCATION in the SUBJECT.''  Nearest town or, for London - closest tube/train station and first part of the post code (and agency/parlour as an option).

''* AW profile link or contact details at the start of the review.''

'''* Logistics; booking and communication.'''

'''* Location (for In-call);  safety, discretion, facilities, comfort, ease of finding.'''

'''* Looks; WG body and face, approximate age, height and dress size, hygiene, outfit, accuracy of photos, nationality and language.'''

'''* Services used and the price paid (detailing time and extras charged). Mention enthusiasm, attitude, time keeping.'''

''* Bonus points; face and figure photos from the profile.''

Great idea.

I can’t help thinking that if a review is of readable length without soft porn, contains all the necessary info, it doesn’t need to be very long. Word seems to me a like overkill.

Another point...

Think about this guys when you maybe write a review:

Let’s say said prossie has 7 reviews.
Let’s say the next punter has her on his ‘potential’ hotlist and wants to check the reviews. Let’s say all the reviews are short and to the point. Takes him 10 seconds to skim through one. That’s just over a minute for them all.
Let’s say the punter has has 7 prossies in his hotlist, each with 7 reveries. He’s read them all in less than five minutes, very doable, makes a decision, gives her a call for a booking.

Now let’s say the reviews are longer but take about three and a half minutes to read. That’s getting on for half an hour to wade through them (or over 25 minutes). Some take even longer to read.

The point of inefficiency, what is technically really a bit of an abuse of the forum, is that those long reviews are often very entertaining. People enjoy them. They probably say ‘great review’ and they are justified as ‘everyone has their own style’ or ‘different strokes for different folks’ to silence any detractors.

But the bottom line is that they are not very efficient at helping other punters find VFM with paid sex. That many people sadly ‘like’ them is not the point. So I’d say, try to keep it short and sweet with all the necessary information (as per guidelines).

Writing styles are fun.
But not really very important.

It's true that Windows doesn't have a clipboard viewer but that's because it's just a staging post; it's not meant to be used or manipulated in any way. Windows has a simple text editor called Notepad - it can be found under Start - All Programs - Accessories. It's a very simple text program that saves files with a .txt format & doesn't apply fomatting to the text. If you compose your notes in that you can copy & paste what you have written into any other program or the review pane on this website. Just highlight the text & either use Copy & Paste or Ctrl-C (copy) & Ctrl-V (paste) from the keyboard. In Windows these commands always work, on any programme or webpage.

If you want to get a bit more advanced then Windows 7 has another text editor called Wordpad - it's in the same place as Notepad. This saves files as .rtf (Rich Text Format) which can have formatting like bold applied.

If you enjoy writing it people will enjoy reading it so look upon it was fun rather than a chore. If punting is fun then a review must be fun also even if it ends up being a negative.

A review (using tried and tested methods) was posted in the SW section this evening, and a 2nd will be in the next few days.

That's some interesting maths there Marmalade. A short review takes 10 seconds to read, but a long one takes 3.5 minutes? Seems a but arbitrary. The long review must be exactly 21 times longer than the short one?!

Personally I appreciate longer reviews. The extra detail can often be very interesting, particularly if it's a girl you're on the fence about. If all you want is a quick overview, just count the positives and negatives. As for my reviews, I know I can waffle sometimes, so I always put a one-sentence TL;DR at the end for anyone in a hurry.

You miss the point. And frankly, fuck you with your hair-splitting about “maths”.

Your reviews are nicely laid out but yes, you do waffle. They read like an AW review. If you want to do ‘interesting’ it is better in my opinion to put it in a separate post. Not everyone wants to paw through your attempts at amateur story writing. I wouldn’t read as far as your “one sentence TL” whatever that is.

You’re fucking a prostitute; not relating how you were the first man to climb Mount fucking Everest.  :dash:

You haven’t annoyed me. But you should read my post in the spirit it is meant which is one of helpfulness. Insulting me is pointless — I don’t care. There’s a few hundred newbies like yourself that complain that someone else posts nonsense instead of listening. You’ve been here a few months. You’re not a complete twat (though I could be wrong) but you’re kind of full of yourself. There’s people here who have been punting for 40 years or more, have individually fucked literally hundreds of prossies, but if that counts for anything at all they’re quicker to grasp the ethos of this site. But carry on in your merry way if you want. I won’t bother you unless you do actually annoy me (which isn’t likely) or unless you’re easily bothered. If you’re rude of course you’ll get short shrift.

James FD- thank you for your reply and laying things out in such a clear manner. Following your instructions (written on a bit of paper) I have moved text from wordpad (didn't know where it was) to a blank review window. Also an AW ref into the subject box.My life has been transformed. I remain in your debt. :hi:
