Following up from a E.Midlands Thread, by NewSeeker

Thought I'd start this thread on accessing and using GUM clinics in the Yorkshire & Humberside Region. To help demystify the process, share, pitfalls, how long you need to take out of a busy day etc, is it totally confidential, will your GP practice find out etc etc. For those unaware: A sexual health or genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinic specialises in sexual health, and can provide tests and treatment for many STIs.

Hopefully we'll get a thread like on the London Board (https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=58732.175) which gave me the EMidlands idea.

So please use this thread to discuss and ask questions about STI testing.

A useful bit of information from FishyFoo on the EM board has been added below.
Going to a different town isn't an issue. Just tell them that you work in that town/city and they don't bat an eyelid.

I get tested every 3 months and have done since I became active again.

All info is totally confidential and they will NOT contact your doctor unless you ask them to.

I tell them my real name, my real date of birth and I give them my real home address. I do though use my punting phone for texts etc that they send. So much easier than lying through my teeth to them as it's too much like hard work to remember everything.

Results are sent out by text unless you ask otherwise.

I have used....

I have also used Wakefield which I think is shite !!!!

By far and above my favorite is the walk-in in Sheffield. It's near the Crucible Theater with a large NCP just opposite to park in. It's my favorite as you DO NOT need an appointment. It's fucking hilarious watching all the pro$$ies walk in. Saw a regular in there last time I was there so we had a nice chat and afterwards I punted her.

If I have time to make an appointment I use either Chesterfield or Rotherham.

Rotherham had 3 monthly check up. Took longer in the waiting room than what the test took. I was in and out in 20 minutes which was ideal as I booked for 0900 and did it on the way to a client appointment for work. Results should be texted to me within the week.

A blood sample is the standard test for HIV and syphilis. I suppose you could refuse this and opt only for the urine tests and swabs? It's risk and reward like the rest of this game! Do your activities put you at risk? Which is easier to explain to the OH: a bruise or a dose of something nasty? Perhaps you could say you've donated blood...

NewSeeker created a Positive review, which illustrates the experience. Note this is in the E.Midlands, but is extremely useful.

If you are honest and tell them that you partake of pro$$ies they DO NOT give you a FULL all clear. It can take months after exposure for some STI's to show up !!!!

They tell you that you are OK, or not as the case maybe, at the time of testing.

There has been a lot of discussion on the topic over the last 18 months. A large amount of discussion has followed the question of bareback, hence the creation of the region bareback threads.

Another experience in the Reading area bu Cunning Punt, just to illustrate experience.

Most seasoned punters including myself have regular 3 monthly check-ups. This hobby we all enjoy, has some danger associated with it, so better to be safe than sorry.

My arm looks like a fucking pin cushion as the nurse couldn't get a vein.  :scare: :dash: :scare:

Vampire still bled me though.  :D :D

Results in no more than 2 weeks.

I IMAGINE  if you use a condom for relieving oral your safe .
And if you use a condom for full sex

Then you shouldn’t have a problem ever

If you receive OWO then I guess you can catch  a few STI’s but saliva in the women’s mouth does kevit reduces risk

Bareback - then your playing with your life

A visit is something i've been looking into for a couple of weeks.

Anyone any useful info??

Locations, quieter sessions??, book in advance or walk-in?? Honest or annonymous?

Any info/advice appreciated, here or PM.  :hi:

Just bag up .
But kissing can be very minimal risk
If doing OWO regularly I think  you will get something

I can’t help for your location, but locations and sessions will depend on what’s available in your area, search your local NHS
Ditto with appointments or open walk-in sessions, for example it depends on the day of week and morning / afternoon as to whether an appointment is needed/available
Locally Monday’s can be busy (after a good weekend on the pull etc) and appointments are needed for the morning
I tend to go mid to late week in open surgeries, they are rarely empty

Honest or anonymous is a bit of a funny question, there should be no passing of STI clinic info to your gp wirhout consent,  but false names or anonynimity are permitted

Honesty wise though, there’s no real benefit to keeping some of it to yourself.  They can put your statistics into their system and also target your risks in the context of what you are doing in the local area.  This allows them to target specific tests in line with other people in the area.
You can lie about seeing prostitutes and put it down to sleeping around, but that won’t correlate with the local statistics and they won’t flag to test for the right risks & what STDs are going round that part of the community

Offline Romeo Sensini

Used the one in the Merrion Centre. Can pre-book or walk in (look online for session times/contact). Busy, but everyones in same boat arent they! Gave false name, without issue. Verdict by text to punting phone a few days later. Quite easy really.

Be aware - there are 2 types of test. If they ask "do you want express" temptation is to say yes, piss in bottle and away you go, but this only tests for a couple of STI. Better off with full test IMO.

I went last week for my annual checkup. Like you FF nurse couldnt get enough blood, Did throat swab and urine. So yesterday I get a text please call regarding you recent test..... I've never had a recall before but I guessed it was a new sample required and it was. This time she got all the samples required. Should get the results Friday. The Swab and Urine were all OK.

I'm very honesty with them and told them I'd been getting my arsehole rimmed  :diablo: :diablo: so they were keen for a swab of that as well. Apparently chlamydia and gonorrhea can live up your arse.  :scare: :scare:

Unfortunately there wasn't a FAF blonde nurse to do it so the male nurse sent me off to the bog to do it myself.

I actually was similar when I started- but decided life was too short. It also depends on what domestic arrangements you have at home as to how this would influence your decision. As you rightly say your perogative.

For people who want to get tested for STD'S you can now get a NHS home testing kit for free. Not so good if your not single living with the wife/partner but if you have a punting phone and a works address you can use to send the kit to your sorted :)

I used that last year to get the free test kit and subsequently didn't qualify for freebies; so now I just order a test kit (for Chlamydia/Gonorrhoea testing) online from Superdrug (costs about 36quid)  :hi:

Be aware I used the Fettle service two weeks ago for a routine check.  No symptoms, no reason to expect anything but clear results.  Tested for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, HIV, and syphilis.  Results came back saying all clear but that I should be re-tested for syphilis at an NHS GUM clinic.  Went to the local clinic who said this is typical of independent services, leaving people unclear as to what is going on.  Had the tests again for all four and the results gave me the all clear.  Cost me £60 and a week of doubt.  Not the best service , from now on I'll stick with the NHS. :hi:

I went to the GUM clinic or as it's now called Sexual Health Clinic in Sheffield Hallamshire. Booked an appointment over the phone, easy no hassle, even got the time I wanted for a week later. The process involved filling out two forms and a urine test  and blood test on that day. It was pretty easy, before they used to ask the questions on the form in person, no swab which I know I've had before and no inspection which I'm grateful for as the nurse was male. The guy was friendly enough, but it seemed a lot more formal than it was a few years ago. I haven't been in two years, but I have only had sex with around 10 people in that time. I saw one girl who was quite cute, clearly a student and she went in with her mother later on! And one who was probably on the game around 40 and on the big side, couldn't find her AW or at least not to my knowledge.

Because this thread has popped up I feel I should pass on some information I have recently learned from a friend who works in the medical field.

HSV (Herpes) is on the rise dramatically, now they’re 2 types, HSV1 which is cold sores around your mouth and in your mouth and throat. HSV2 which is based on your genital area, you can get either type in either place, now I know a lot of people have cold sores and we don’t think a lot of them except no kissing or you will catch it, well with the type 2 strain you can catch it even if nothing is showing symptom wise because the virus sheds cells regularly. Now the virus can only be transferred into someone via a mucus membrane ie the inside of a vagina, under a foreskin or rectum or mouth, all by skin on skin contact. The virus can not survive away from a body ie on towels or toilet seats for longer than a few minutes.

Because 2 out of 3 18-50 year olds have some form of hsv THEY DO NOT TEST FOR IT ON A STANDARD TEST as it’s so common, you need to ask for it to be tested for.

HSV is also incurable as it lives in your nerves and spinal cord, so sadly if you do contract it, it’s just a management process if you do have an outbreak, so even if you get the smallest spot on your genitals or a sudden tightness in your foreskin even if it’s for a day or 2 I’d recommend you ask for a test for it.

Play safe people

I use the Locala facility in Dewsbury on the outskirts of the town centre, I am honest with them. For anyone that is nervous about visiting, I find them non judgemental and happy to give advice on the risks involved. Only downside is that results can take a while, in actual fact I was tested recently and it took three and a half weeks !   It functions as a drop in clinic on mornings with appointments in the afternoons.  I use the drop in facility which can involve a long wait ( but not always ) and there is a very convenient pay and display across the road. Similarly a  booking may involve waiting a week or two to be seen. Everyone has to fill in a simple question and answer A4 form, it always seems very civilised to me. Also offer Hep B injectionss too.  I hope this helps.

You have to specifically ask for it.
