I'm sure the place is dear to many of your hearts. A while back some guy in there was bothering me, saying how they had licensing issues and might have to close. now it's 'closed for refurbishment' - a place which specifically hasn't been refurbished since the 80's. does anyone know what is going on?

Offline Malvolio

Given the gentrification of the King's Cross area, it wouldn't surprise me if the Flying Scotsman was turned into something more salubrious.

Aaaah stop, I'm still mourning the loss of the Queen Ann in Vauxhall which was converted into a feckin' theatre tea house full of yummy mummies and arty types. It was the last true cheap spit 'n sawdust strip bar in London before it's closure about 5 years ago when the owner was murdered on holiday in the Caribbean I believe. To rub salt in the wound they've just awarded listed status to its nearest neighbour - that carbuncle the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. No problem with the gays but who's looking out for the punters?

was ideally placed for some evening entertainment after a day at the Oval as well - a real shame - though I often struggled to spot a stripper in there that I found attractive

regarding the flying scotsman and other strip pub related matters there is a yahoo group called "london strip" and a recent post says ....
" the word has it that it is closed for a couple of weeks for refurbishment, with speculation that it might not re-open as a strip pub." but I've no idea how accurate this is

Thanks for the responses, if they turn it into a normal pub, lads will be walking in and looking confused/disappointed for years to come.

Islington extended the licence for a year a while back... on the proviso it is converted thereafter

That was 2013 though so must be living on borrowed time! Be surprised to see it come back after this 'refurb'

They renewed the licence again 6 months ago - so surprising they have closed now.
The pub has a twitter page which just says 'closed  for refurbishment until further notice'.
My guess also is that it has gone for good - but no-one (except the owners) knows for sure.

They renewed it 6 months ago? Do you know how long for? If they did shut it, would be weird to do so if they still had a license

Offline Josey Wales

Licence renewal usually for 12 months.  Yeah, it's a puzzle why they are doing it now.  The Backpacker Bar, next door to the Scotsman and owned by same people, is also closed for refurb.

That'll be a real shame. That place is a must visit if I was in Kings Cross.

I walked past the Old Axe on Hackney Road earlier this year when punting in the area and that place was still going.

Sadly it is now confirmed that the Flying Scotsman has closed for good as a striptease venue.

Indeed, I was talking to one of the strippers who used to work there this afternoon, and she confirmed that they've all been told it's closed for good.
Was always a great place for a couple of beers while waiting for the train, happy mammaries (sorry memories)

miserable reading, but cheers for posting the link. Edie is fucking awesome. Woman's a proper artist. She could study art at uni and i bet she'd be fucking good at it. loved that stupid hat she used to wear every so often, and her cultured taste in music.

Offline mookey

Yeah big shame, although it has to be said it was one of the grottiest places you'd ever find. Part of its charm really.

Offline somerandomfella

I've always wondered why you can't get private dances there.  :unknown:

Offline Malvolio

There wasn't exactly the room for it - as I recall there was the front bar, the room at the side with the stage and the room at the back where the other girls would wait their turn.

It was a total dump, but I am sad to see it go - places like this add character to a city and are certainly preferable to a 'gentleman's club' where you have to hand over £10 to walk in the door.

Walked up Caledonian Rd today, and can confirm that the entrance to TFS is fully closed with workmen using it as a welfare space.  Not sure if this is temp or permenant.
But is it much of a worry? Griffin is only a 10min walk down GraysIn anyway.

Offline swfinest

Hopefully somewhere alternative has filled the void  so to speak. Anyone know where the girls / service has moved onto?

wow, you and me are gonna fall out. that place had spirit. gloss is not a suitable alternative

Sad times.

Had my 1st stripper experience in there. My mates made me sit on a bar stool right in front of the stage. Watching some "bubbly" German girl in a nurses outfit trying and hold her legs up using the pillars.

Sir Robert Peel now the Scotsman. Let's hope the Axe isn't next.

I'm going to post happy memories of that fucking place in this thread. It's part of the grieving process.

starting with a basic one. Ivy, teak-tough lady, gorgeous. i think from the Czech republic. she was getting ready for her show and there were a couple of lads getting a bit of dirty talk in. She looked up from her iphone, stabbed them both with a glare and said, 'behave'. They shut the fuck up immediately. awesome woman.

Does anyone know of a place like the Scotsman used to be? I tried the axe and that one is totally rammed full of really pushy women, not relaxing! all the fucking nagging totally ruins it.

You could try the Nags Head on Whitechapel Road.
