I have just been to tesco and bought a punting phone cost £12.99 for phone and £10 credit bargain not work the risk of using main phone ;)

100% agree.  Cannot believe that before UKP I used my work phone.  :scare:

I have never used a punting phone.

Obviously you are a single bloke, but still a punting phone is the safe bet.

Offline Punting Valley

Single bloke here I still use a different phone. If you get into dispute with a vindictive WG your phone number may be outed by them. With a punting phone you can just swap the sim, loses £10 but you can start fresh.

The very reason you need a punting phone, sound advice.

I have had two incidents recently where I am really glad that I had a punting phone - it means that you can walk away from unpleasant situations knowing there is no connection with you.  You do not have to keep screening calls that are to tell you that you are a complete fucker because you left a negative review on here.

Very similar. I had an argument with one and I was damn glad I had a punting phone.

Is there a genuine payg sim available? All seem to need topping up every 30 days.

Sainsburys now have a SIM card £10 top up and use when you want not like a lot of others where it's £10 a month top ups now .

Me too. Single and safe.  :hi:

I'm single and using a punting phone.
I have rang few regulars or semi regulars with my regular phone but just as i don't give my phone number to strangers on the street i don't give it away to wgs.
Single or not punting phone is a smart choice.
Think of it as connection that can be cut easily. It's irrelevant if you're single or not.

Well yes it's safer to have a punting phone. I'm in this game nearly 2 years and i have never had any problems - yet. I just don't need another device in my pocket.  :hi:

After joining ukp and reading about people's problems and about punting phones I decided to get one but before this I have used my work phone so guess I've been lucky. The guy at tesco told me the £10 credit will stay active for 6 months unless it gets used and if there is any problems than as you say there's no way of tracing number back to me not like a contract phone

I think it's a no brainer to have a punt phone.

I have an old nokia 1100 which is topped and stored away until needed.

Firstly, sometimes you have no idea who you are speaking to on the other end, especially since the scammers seem to be out in force recently. If you use one main contract phone that is registered to say eBay or Guntree etc... put a search in for that number you use and I can tell you, people can easily start to build a profile from the info thats out there.

Some might say it's a little paranoia however, i'd call it common sense.

Prostitutes aren't usually renowned for their honesty and integrity. a proportion are back street skanks who's only mission is to empty your wallet.

Never underestimate a twisted desperate woman  :hi:

I'm starting to wish I had a punting phone as I made a negative reference about a escort on this forum and she started emailing me on adultwork giving me grief re my comments as at the time I was using the same username name for both sites ( rookie error ) I was deleting messages unread so she started texting me on the number she had for me which is my personal phone  :scare:
Couldn't believe it !!! Fortunately I'm single so didn't have to worry about the missus reading the texts blocked that number so she can't contact me but so wish I'd had a punting phone as it would of saved me a lot of trouble

If things would go wrong with WG i can block her number. So she couldn't call or text me. You can do it with Windows Phone but i'm sure Android and iOS have this feature too.

I need to get on board with this, not because of vindictive WGs but because I've had a couple text me out of the blue offering 'special rates today' and the like.

Well done OP - you got yourself a punting phone.

However, before you can call yourself a fully-fledged punter you need to get yourself a punting watch (cheap and waterproof so you can wear it in her shower), a punting jacket (lots of big pockets to keep things needed for punting like mouthwash, wipes ;), shower gel, etc), a punting hat (to pull down low over your eyes when entering / leaving a brothel to mitigate the risk of somebody you know recognising you), punting socks (specially formulated not to pick up long hairs from the prossie's filthy floor - which could get you in trouble when you get home), and of course the all-important punting pants  ;)

I had used a work phone for years, but it was a basic Nokia. As soon as I knew I was being upgraded to a smart phone, I bought a £10 Nokia from Tesco. Apart from the horror stories I had heard on here, I was amazed when I flicked onto a page on my office PC, to see my contacts listed. If I'd kept "Tight Anal Hottie" in there, I might have had some explaining to do!!!!

And punting bag - to carry a bottle of mineral water, a few cans of coca-cola or red bull. Don't forget to throw in your favourite uniform - if a WG doesn't have it.

I just use a separate sim card. I save numbers to each sim so I can't make the mistake of using the wrong one.

I have a virgin (oh the irony!) SIM card, for only £5 per month, loads of minutes, ditto texts and 250mb of data which is handy for the map apps when trying to find the venue. As a single guy, I never thought of a punting phone as vital but the odd unsolicited text does appear. When read at work, you never know who is glancing over your shoulder. Leave it in the dar on silent and keep the main phone 'clean'.

For those who won't get one as they don't want to have to explain why they need a 2nd phone, the Moto G (2nd gen) takes 2 sim cards. You have to switch between them. Would be perfect. Never without it.

Just about to upgrade my phone and change handsets. Will keep old one and get a payg sim to use for punting. Not been a problem up to now but thinking about it it is not just that a disgruntled WG can text and call you. If you google my mobile number it is pretty easy to find out who I am and I suspect where I live. Don't want Sergei on the door step conversing with the missus.

Very wise in my view, but a separate phone isn't essential, just using another sim is sufficient if a punter thinks he cant hide a second phone. I got my punting phone, an old Nokia second hand years ago and that's sufficient for me, one bonus with such a phone over a Smartphone is it doesn't need charging as often and that's quite apart from the fact with some Smartphones you have to be careful to ensure a partner doesn't catch you out with some features such phones offer as posted on here many times before.

I use a punting phone that I either change every year or two or at least change the SIM.

My new one has added security so that only I can get into it. I also rough them up to make them look a little used/ abused so that if the OH finds it then I can say, yeah I found that near my car in a car park etc!

Yeah that was the excuse used by a poor chap being discussed on Mumsnet whose phone had been found - he was woken up at 2 in the morning to be confronted with it.  The story was not believed!

Don't get me wrong I think it is a decent story and means that you can say you do not know the passcode - just warning that it may not be enough.

Either way we all sail close to the wind. You either have a punting phone and it gets found; or you get trouble by shit on your punting phone.

Never saw the benefit until I found UKP, thank god I did.  I didn't realise how stupidly naive I was being

Offline Daffodil

If you have a partner, the only downside to a punting phone is hiding the bugger. If you can think to hide it there, she can think to look there. I hide mine in my car. Where you need a spanner to get it

If you're single it's arguably even more of a no-brainer. In addition to the punting benefits, there are a million other reasons why having an easily disposable number is a good idea.

Online webpunter

I've occasionally searched WG's no's on the interweb.  Sometimes they show up on gumtree / friday-ad / vivastreet etc.  There are loads of websites doing reverse number searches.  I'm sure that if a WG wanted to track you down then a private dick could have your details in less than an hour.  Someone at each of the mobile co's will access a/c details for sure.  So irrespective of OH or no OH then a punting phone / minimum separate SIM seems like a no brainer to me.  And using a company / employer mobile to call hookers is just asking for trouble.  The scope for fuck ups with the same phone is endless

Offline kiltedviking

I've read a lot of comments about punters having old dumb phones as punting phones. To be honest if I had a non - smart phone hanging around the missus would be more suspicious.  I work in IT and have an android smart phone as my punting phone.  Set up with a Three paypal sim, Gmail account that bears no resemblance to me.  The phone contains no contacts, photos,  music or anything like that.  I browse this and other punting sites on that phone and my own phone using incognito mode and continually clear browser, call and text histories on the punting phone after each activity.

My wife knows I have a second phone,  I need it for my work,  I'm a freelancer and wanted a number that people can reach  me on separate  to my personal phone.

I don't need to worry about leaving it around,  although it is locked but that's just so that it can't be used if I lose it (which if I do I'll remotely wipe it anyway).

Seems the least  stressful way to keep things under cover.

Offline domino999

all she'd need to do is use another number, then another and so on or withhold her number and that would ring.

Next step you'd need to do is block all withheld or private numbers and numbers not in your contacts.

Now, this would stop a lot of companies, government  departments and people like doctors getting hold of you. If you blocked all mobiles not in your contacts,  then I'm also sure you'd miss some important calls.

Wgs can change their number daily. and I bet you'll never meet one with less than 3 numbers. sim cards are pennies if not free so the cost to change is minute and a tenner top up to a girl earning 1000s a week is painless.

Your Way out is change numbers (new contract), change via provider explaining nuisance calls or have a chat with the boys in blue.

This is all a headache I can do without
