Author Topic: Middlesbrough red light area?  (Read 2000 times)

More a post out of curiosity than anything else.
I'm aware of Stockton's infamous Yarm Road ladies but wondered if Middlesbrough had an equivalent? Not one for curb crawling but just one of those random thoughts on a wednesday night 😂

Seems an odd question unless you genuinely want to know.   :unknown:

Was a story about Newport Estate off Union street being a hub of prostitution

Be aware that the police see you as the villain, not worth the risk of getting caught.

many years ago it was 'over the border'  which is an area behind train station and North Rd , the cops actually had a van with 'vice patrol' written on it to deter the Billy Bunters and lasses

Many years ago I was at the castling at Sainsburys (not been to Borough for years and not sure if it’s still there) and was approached by a street Walker so could be anywhere unless things have changed. I only remember this as the woman had an Elastoplast holding her glasses together like Jack Duckworth off Corination Street !

In the 90's I was working on a contract for 6 months near the Transporter Bridge, I used to drive up the road past the train station every day. There were quite a few there most days. I'll never forget one especially though, she was a big girl dressed in a green tunic, looked like something out of Robin Hood, she stood on the corner of an old building under a fading sign that said 'Meat for sale' it still makes me chuckle to this day 😁

In my pre-punting days in 1990s I would occasionally visit Middlesbrough for work. One area I recall...... I think near Port Clarence... had big roadside billboards warning that the police were aware of prostitution of children in the area. Basic message - don't come here. It was a pretty desolate urban landscape at the time.

The saddest thing i ever seen back in 2004 when i first passed my test, we would drive to boro and literally cruise around for the craic. Driving over the border where the cop shop is now, and the youngest st walker i saw no word of a lie was no older than 12. It was literally heart breaking to see. Most of the street girls will have drug problems or very difficult background. Not that other non st workers don’t but its sad to think that most st walkers have been forced (by drugs , debt etc) into it.
