Author Topic: London Hotel Prices  (Read 1071 times)

Sorry couldn’t see another topic on this but I’m sure I remember discussing it elsewhere.

Anyway, what the fuck is going on with London Hotel prices this week?  Budget hotels are pushing £400/night, mid-range decent business hotels are £600 plus.

I was even looking for Canary Wharf and the Britannia is just shy of £400, you can normally get a room there for under £60.

I’m on the verge of having to cancel two dates this week because I can’t get a decent room at a decent rate.

You may get some joy around London city airport.

It is not a London thing, all of Ireland is the same unless you go where nobody wants to, even them they are 100 plus.

Not sure many can run at full capacity, supply and demand comes into play, along with increased running costs lots have staff problems, in Ireland they are employing Ukranian refugees. Those that are not housing them that is. That is reducing capacity too.

Just adding a few examples of current insanity, these are normally sub £200 hotels …..

GMAPS is your friend.  Hotels are like escorts: Don't worry about the several charging more - notice the many decent ones charging a fair rate.  Here are loads:

Those booking sites have algorithms that sometimes produce ridiculous prices due to demand in the area.

As Steely Dan says, google maps is a great resource for getting hold of a cheap hotel room.

Last Aug 2021 I booked 2 nights in London at £140 for the two nights, and now the same booking is £500

Good thing with booking.com, you can book ahead, and get the best prices, and if not going, then cancel

Cheers will have a look.  A lot of the time the prices on gmaps don’t pan out though, they show a price you don’t get once you follow the link.  But there’s certainly a few deals I wasn’t seeing on Booking, Trivago, etc.

I just searched on gmaps around the Hyde Park and Paddington area - they were all in the £400 to £600 price range.

Looking at the image you posted, there should be much cheaper priced options though. Is that image recent ie. From when you posted?  Is there a particular search string you are entering into gmaps?

Cheers.

I got the image  5 min before I posted.

I just put the word 'hotel' in the search box, then moved the little price bar down to £120 so all the expensive one would not clog up the screen. It could be that the dates matter too - a few weeks in advance seems better.  Best luck to you anyway.

Trying to book a day-use hotel and have noticed that many of them have not much availability or are more expensive. Trying to find one below £100 is getting difficult. Is this just due to summer and people going on holiday or is this a permanent trend? I don't remember it being so bad in previous years during the summer.

I think this is not due to any algorithm, there is something weird going on and prices have risen way too much.

In fact, it's pissing me off because everything is going up. I was at my local shopping centre the other day and had to park in a multi-story car park and even that cost me more. I went to fill up diesel in my car and that ended up being near £100 and the tank wasn't even empty, so it would be much worse on an empty tank.

If this carries on, I may not be able to punt or end up having handjobs in back alleys somewhere in Soho. :scare:

Sorry, my venting is over and I will get back to work. :unknown:

I have noticed a slight increase in Dayuse prices but TBH I didn't think the increases have been that much. I've just booked a room for this coming Friday for a SA meet and in London there were over 30 offerings in the £45 to £100 range to choose from.

Most of the ones I can find range from £90 £100's. Unfortunately, I don't like hotels like Travelodge as they always seem a bit like a prison cell, small and barren.

I suppose it will depend on the day you are looking at. In Paddington this Friday there are five Dayeuse hotels between £75 and £80 which is the price range I used to make my booking

Just saw - for £90 - a bed in a 28-bed mixed dormitory in Swiss Cottage! FFS

(Special offer, should have been £101)

The best I seem to be able to do tomorrow in Central London is Premier Inn for £200

Not ideal but if needs must.

London is rammed with tourists at the moment so it is no surprise that hotels are cashing in

Offline Setodger

Wimbledon being on is probably a contributing factor as well.

Good point.

Yes I also facing the same issue. Earlier the hotels on same day were available in range of 60-100 in central now , the cheapest would be around 250 for a small room. Travelodge is fully booked , it's insane at the moment.

I did heard from someone that government is putting all asylum seekers in hotels these days , that may be the reason along with wimbledon ? Not sure
