How do groups work?

Hello all was looking at a quick 1/2 hour with Alice Swallows External Link/Members Only but was going through a group me 2 you when I thought the number I text was the individuals number. Now I may sound dumb but I have never gone through a group before so how do they work, are they like I am thinking a middle man type thing where you book through them?
