I wouldn't advise younger punters to hold their breath either. The first three times I had sex (in the mid-1970s) I used a then-new contraceptive called C-film, which was a square of dissolvable spermicide that I stuck on the end of my knob before doing the deed.
Such things are still around today (see picture above), but it turns out the woman is supposed to put them in at least 15 minutes before sex and even then their effectiveness is only 75 per cent. And there's no protection against STDs.
There were two different girls involved in this rash experiment and all I can say now is that I was very, very lucky that one of them didn't get up the duff.
If science was going to improve on the condom it would have happened by now, don't you think?
