Author Topic: No more Cialis!  (Read 1467 times)

I have had Cialis (Tadalafil) on the nhs for over three years with no problem. This week I got a letter from the doctor to say that the CCG(?) has decided not to prescribe it in primary care anymore and it has been deleted from my prescriptions. It says I need to see the doc for an alternative. Anyone know what this is likely to be. The Cialis works well for me and I'm used to it now with no side effects. I've got a few spare packs but they won't last that long.

To be honest, and I'm sorry if this causes offence, but if you can afford to go punting buy your ED drugs privately and save a little of the NHS budget for more critical resources.

Looks like it's a local thing.
I dont think that Sildenafil (Viagra) is a direct replacement as they work differently but I've heard that Levitra could be closer to Cialis

It will be the Generic Sildenafil.

I spoke to my GP late last year asking about getting my prescription for Sildenafil switched to Avanafil and was told the NHS is stopping prescribing all ED tablets bar generic Sildenafil as its so much cheaper for the NHS.

If you are wanting Cialis on the NHS you will need to get it on a private prescription for £25-£30 for 4x20mg tablets.

*Edit* If its only a local thing, then I will say I am in Newcastle.

Thanks for that, I'm in Ipswich, so it's maybe more widespread. I take the one a day version, so that will work out pretty expensive to go private (though I guess they are a lower concentration so maybe cheaper). Guess I will just have to try the Sildenafil, if that's what he suggests.

I know its not ideal, but the patent for Cialis runs out mid 2017 so it is just two years you would need to put up with Sildenafil as GPs will freely prescribe it after that.

You can just buy it in a supermarket pharmacy.  When I got a 12 pack online (4 each Viagra, Cialis, Levitra) from superdrug it cost £8 per pill. Check postings but I believe ASDA pharmacy is reputedly the cheapest.

I havnt done any research on this so maybe some of the lads who take this can give me some ideas ......but why should this be prescribed on the NHS.
Does it have any other benefits to your life?

+1 - Cialis for me is far superior to anything else so I pay for it myself. It's well worth it in my view.

Roll on November 2017 for Cialis users - patent expires and price will probably drop by 90% for generic (but still genuine)  :hi:

It is only supposed to be prescribed on the NHS if your ED is the result of some medical or surgical treatment, such as a prostectomy, or other treatment such as cancer treatment or other genuine ill ness which actually causes the ED.  It is NOT supposed to be prescribed for ED resulting from your past lifestyle such as smoking, alcohol, obesity, etc. which all result in hardened arteries and are the usual causes of ED
